A WORD FROM THE CHIEF The '79 edition of the SEQUOYAH is not just a calendar of the year's activities and events at HVJ, but it is also a continuing prophecy for the future graduates of our school. Your copy of the SEQUOYAH will serve as a torch to brighten the dim memories of yesterday. It will serve too as a reminder of the often happy times and the sometimes sad days spent at the Home of the Warriors. I am sure Sequoyah, one of the most noble Indians of the South and inventor of the only perfected Indian alphabet, would be proud of the continuing heritage of academic accomplishments that thousands of HVJ graduates have completed, and he would say, Well Done to the continuing life of the Warriors that grace our halls now and will continue to do so in the future. 13 UPPER: Mr. Crosby finds it difficult to make a choice. ABOVE: This is no place to spend your time.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS Assisting Mr. Crosby with discipline and general administration were four important people: Mr. James Spear, Mr. James Jackson, Mr. Earl Berksteiner and Mrs. Kathy O'Neill. Mr. Spear was in charge of the discipline of ninth and eleventh grade students, activities of clubs, fund raising projects, lunchroom patrol and the direction of athletics. Mr. Jackson spent busy days in charge of school busses, distribution of books, field trip arrangements, and after school detention. Mr. Berksteiner dealt mainly with discipline of tenth and twelfth graders, but he enjoyed participating in school activities and working directly with the students. Mrs. Kathy O'Neill worked closely with scheduling, collecting data for the computer, and helping teachers with clerical duties. HVJ would have been dt a loss without the help of these four to keep our school running smoothly. EXTREME UPPER RIGHT: Why did you miss detention for three days? ABOVE RIGHT: get excuses for everything. ABOVE: Coach Spear's favorite pastime. RIGHT: Mrs. O'Neill checks her busy schedule. 14 ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF
