The Q - , - year started in june when the band traveled to Virginia for rhe Virginia ' Beach Music Festival. There they won the parade comperitiong the band's field show performance received a standing ovation from the entire audi- ence and caused our band to be the most ralked-about band at the show. Following a grueling band camp, the Marching Chargers, under the leader- ship of Lamar Richardson and Drum Major Harold Yzlnlcey, embarked on a successful contest season. After taking rhird place at the Kenrucky Stare Fair, the Chargers won rheir next three con- rests. They won rhe field show at Eliza- bethtown and both parade and field show ar Central City and Ohio County. Choirs and Orchestra Provide Excellent Roughly 138 people are involved in the choral program atftown this year. All choruses are directed by Mrs. Batts except the Seventh Grade Chorus, which is directed by Mr. Tiggs. They participate in several pro- grams, including a Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Spring Cona cert and sing for Baccalaureate and Graduation. The Mndrigal Pop Singers also participated in the Gaslight Festival. In March and April, some of thesc groups will participate in the State Music Festival. Last year several ensembles won superior ratings, while the Male Chorus won an excellent rating. The Concert Choir performs for the Christmas Basket Program GIRLS CHORUS ORCHESTRA The orchcstm performs in music programs at school, gives programs in elementary schools, and helps in recruit- ing programs for elementary students in the fall and spring. Also this year, they participated in the performance of Vivaldi's GLORIA with Waggener. They also give pro- grams for the students in the Learning Disability School located at the old jeffersontown Elementary School. Most of the string students are very active in music indi- vidually. Some of them are involved in private music les- sons and some participate in the Louisville-jefferson County Youth Orchestra. The orchestra is quite small this year with only nine students, but hopes to increase its membership next year. 226 orgqmmiasm MA DRI GA LS
