Besides their group excellence, stua dents in both departments have excelled individually. The Honors Section is proud to present j'town High's Super Talents. . . BOB McDONALD, a talented snzdent in both music and drama, HAROLD YAN KEY was named a regional semi-finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition in April, 1976. He is a voice student of Mr. Larry Schenck at jefferson Community College. Bob has also been rated as the most outstanding bass in jefferson County for three consecutive years at All4State Cho KATHY WORDEN PEGGY CLAYTON JAMIE GARRETT SANDY MAY rus auditions. He is pictured here in his leading role in GODSPELL, the Senior Play. Three members of the Marching Chargers were chosen by audition in November, 1976 to participate in All-State Band. These students are HAROLD YANKEY, KATHY WORDEN, and PEGGY CLAY- TON. They will ioin other Ken- tucky musicians in a performance on April 12. Four ,IHS violinists received a superior rating for their violin solos at the Kentucky Music Education Association Contest held at the Universiry of Louisville in March, 1976. These students were KATHY STEARNS, JAMIE GARRETT, JACK STEARNS, and SANDY MAY. We can be proud to have such talented strings students at SCOTT XVILSON NATALIE TAYLOR BOB MCDONALD frown. ln the spring of 1976, a number of j'town drama students were awarded Thespian Society awards, j'town's equivalent of an Academy Award, for their work in OLIVER, the all-school musical. DEBBIE BLAKEMAN was voted Best Actress by her fellow Thcspians. BOB MCDONALD and NATA- LIE TAYLOR were selected as Best Dancers. PAUL DIDIER in athletics. A member of jHS's varsity gymnastics team, she has been awarded both a letter and the Coach's Award Trophy. Pam also studies and teaches gymnastics at a private club. She is an avid fan of kayaking and canoeing as well. Pam's other hobbies include macrame and pottery-making. She has a passion for chocolate and loves cats. Although SUSAN MADDOX must spend many hours on home- work to maintain her fourthfplace ranking, she is basically an outdoor girl. As well as loving camping and canoeing, she is an avid traveller. She has visited Europe several timesg in fact, she spent six weeks last summer in Switzerland, Susan's activities at school are numerous and quite diverse. She belongs to the Spanish Club, Beta Club, and Ecology Club, as well as serving on the Senior Executive Board and the Human Relations Committee. Her academic achieve- ments can be seen in her member- ship of NHS and the Math league team. She has also been the recipi- ent of many departmental awards. Furthermore, Susan is the captain of j'town's High Q team this year. Known for her feminist philoso- phy, Susan is a member of NOW, the National Organization of Women, Susan is also a drama enthusiast. She was in the cast of the Senior Play, and she tries to see an average of two plays per month. ln her spare time, Susan enioys all types of needlework, such as knitting, ctocheting, and crewel stitchery. She loves animals, espe- cially cats and clogs, and adores Nacho-Cheese Doritoes. Ranked ninth in the class, PAUL DIDIER has received numerous academic awards. He has won the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge JROTC essay contest for two consecutive years. This feat has never before been achieved. He has also been the recipient of both the American Legion ,IROTC Bronze Medal for Scholastic Achievement and the Sons of the American Rev- olution ,IROTC Bronze Medal. Fur- thermore, he has won a number of .IHS departmental awards. Paul is very active in athletics in his spare time. He played on the ,IHS football team from his Fresh- BRAD HALL man to his junior year. He also has been on the basketball team for the past three years, In addition, he played on the varsity tennis team for two years, Paul hopes to attend the United States Naval Academy at Annapo- lis. Tied for fifth place, BRAD HALL is one of the more athletic members of Distinguished Stu- dents. He has played on our foot- ball team for the past four years and received an honorable mention this year for the all-state football team. He was also a member of our track team last year. A member of NHS, Brad also excels academically. He has been the recipient of a 1976 summer scholarship to Bellarmine. JEFF JONES, ranked tenth in the class, stays busy both insdie and outside school. Although his job as evening manager at Watterson Trail Exxon requires a great deal of time, he still finds time for mem- bership in NHS, In his moments of relaxation, jeff enioys sports. He further likes working on cars. jeff hopes to attend the U of L Speed School. JEFFJONES SUSAN SCHURCH, eighth ranked in the class, is the newest j'town student to be selected for Distinguished Students. Having transferred to j'town from Seneca for her junior and Senior years, she attended j'town for less than two years, as she graduated after the first quarter this year. She is now attending U of L. Susan was a mem- ber of the Pep Club, German Club, and annual staff at Seneca, while she belongs to the Beta Club there and atJ'town. Susan enjoys fashion designing and hopes to pursue a career in that area. She also likes bowling, soccer, and exotic food. GABRIEL HERNANDEZ is definitely one of the busiest mem- bers of the Senior Class. Besides studying long hours to maintain his fifth-place ranking, Gabe works at both Kingsley Food Market and ,Jasco Products. Yet he still finds time to participate in track, NHS, Beta Club, and Pep Club. Beyond his responsibilities as Ad Manager for the Annual, Gabe spends many hours doing all sorts of odd iobs required in the publication of the annual. Gabe also works hard as SUSAN SCHURCH Senior Class president. Gabe is proud of his track achievements. He was a member of the 1975 mile-relay team which placed first among seven national teams in the AAU meet in Ohio. Academically, on the other hand, he was recently awarded a Regeants Scholarship from WKU. In his spare time, Gabe rides motorcycles, works on his car, and practices karate. AMY CROUCI-I HAROLD YANKEY dents as these makes ,I'town's drama department one of the best around, Four members of the band received superior ratings in solo competition at the Kentucky Music Education Association competition at U of L on Match 25. These stu- dents were AMY CROUCH, HAROLD YANKEY, MARILYN McREYNOLDS, and PEGGY CLAYTON. Such talented musi- cians as these make the Marching MARILYN McREYNOLDS PEGGY CLAYTON Chargers one of the county's best bands. After a lengthy period of rehearsals and auditions, seven J'town students were selected to participate in All-State Chorus this year. Nine j'town students were selected from over thirty j'town choir members competing for a place at the county auditions. Of these ninc students, DOTTIE O'BRIAN, TONY ERNSPIKER, BOB MCDONALD DARRELL LAY DOTTIE O'BRIEN WALLY LESLEY BOB McDONALD, SCOTT BRADFORD, NOEL CLARK, WALLY LESLEY, and DARRELL IAY were chosen for t.he chorus, Between March 10 and 12, they will rehearse for their performance in Lexington on March 12 at the Ken- tucky Music Edueators Association. KATHY STEARNS is one of j'town's finest musicians. In the summer of 1976, she was chosen from over sixty competitors as the winner of the concerto contest at Sewanee Summer Music Center. This meant that she served as the soloist with the Sewanee Festival Orchestra. Kathy was also the win- ner oi the Third District Women's Club Music Contest this year.
