WHO'S WHO What do these ten Seniors have in common? All are members of either the Beta Club or the National Honor Society, while most belong to both organizations. Each student ranks among the top ten students in the class. Moreover, all are representatives of j'town High School in Distinguished Stu- dents in American High Schools, the only version of Who's Who recognized by the jefferson County Board of Education. Ranked seventh in the Senior Class, ROSE DISTLER is active both inside and outside school. A . 1. L Rosie DISTLER member of the Beta Club, FBLA, and the Senior Executive Board, Rose also keeps busy by sewing as NHS treasurer. She is demonstrat- ing her academic ability by compet- ing on the Math League team for the second consecutive year. x WJ .B SHERRI SON In her spare time, Rose enjoys canoeing and swimming, In fact, she has worked at frown Swim Club as a swimming coach and a life guard. Her enjoyment of karate has led het to achieve the high rank of a second-degree brown belt. PHILLIP ROBINSON, who is tied with two other students for first-place ranking. is one of the most active and most honored members of the Senior Class. He is on the Student Council and the Sen- ior Executive Board, as well as serv- ing as President of the Ecology Club. His academic achievements are also evident in his extracurricu- lar activities. Besides belonging to NHS and the Beta Club, Phillip represents j'town as a member of the High Q team. He was also a member of the Math League team for two years. Phillip has received many local and national honors. He has won a large number of ,IHS departmental and Scholastic Achievement Awards. Last spring he was one of the winners of the Kentucky Coun- cil of Teachers of English Student Writing Contest. He was a recipi- ent of the National Council of .,,...- PHlLLlP ROBIN SON Teachers of English Achievement Award this fall. He has also been honored by the American Associa- tion of Spanish Teachers for plac- ing fourth in Kentucky among Spanish II students. His most oustanding achievement, however, was being named a finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship competition. Besides the effort required to achieve these many honors, Phillip works part time at Kroger. He loves Nacho-Cheese Doritoes and choco- late chip cookies. He hopes to UK. Her greatest honor, however, was her selection as one of 750 high school Seniors in the nation to com- pete for designation as one of 121 Presidential Scholars. Her selection for this honor was based on her high performance on the ACT and SAT tests. ln her spare time, Sherri enjoys reading and listening to music. She is an avid soap opera fan and loves chocolate cake and chocolate-cov- ered cherries. She relaxes by doing embroidery and crewel stitchery. PAMELA ODETTE HOW- PAM HOWARD attend MIT this fall. Known throughout the school for her stack of books, SHERR1 SON is one of the students tied for first place in the class. She is also one of its busiest members. As well as belonging to NHS, the Spanish Club, and the Beta Club, she is sec- retaryftreasurer of the Ecology Club, president of the Student Council, and chairman of the Stu- dent Council Grievance Committee. Moreover, she spends many hours writing, revising, and typing copy in her capacity as Copy Editor of the annual. She was also on the Math League for two years. Sherri has received numerous honors and awards during her high school years. Besides receiving many ,IHS departmental and Scho- lastic Achievement Awards, she has been presented a medal by the American Association of Spanish Teachers for placing second in the state among Spanish Il students. She is also proud to be a National Merit Finalist. Sherri was recently awarded a Merit Scholarship from ARD is one of the three students tied for first-place ranking in the class. Her academic efforts have led her to win a series of departmental and ,IHS Scholastic Achievement Awards. lBeta Club and Math4League S ymbolize Achievement and Success The 1975-1976 frown Math League Tmun ranks among the finest in our scl-lool's his- tory. Following four meets against the five other schools in our district, Assumption, Eastern, Fern Creek, Providence, and West- port, the team's scores placed them solidly in first place. This in itself was a first for a frown Math League Tmmg yet, in addition. l . 6, Q ll the team brought home several individual honors. Gary Albin was awarded a trophy for placing first among Senior competitors. Two Sophomore members of the team, jay Bailey and Keertlli Kc-mparajurs, placed second and third, respectively. PAUL DIDIER in athletics. A member of jHS's varsity gymnastics team, she has been awarded both a letter and the Coach's Award Trophy. Pam also studies and teaches gymnastics at a private club. She is an avid fan of kayaking and canoeing as well. Pam's other hobbies include macrame and pottery-making. She has a passion for chocolate and loves cats. Although SUSAN MADDOX must spend many hours on home- work to maintain her fourthfplace ranking, she is basically an outdoor girl. As well as loving camping and canoeing, she is an avid traveller. She has visited Europe several timesg in fact, she spent six weeks last summer in Switzerland, Susan's activities at school are numerous and quite diverse. She belongs to the Spanish Club, Beta Club, and Ecology Club, as well as serving on the Senior Executive Board and the Human Relations Committee. Her academic achieve- ments can be seen in her member- ship of NHS and the Math league team. She has also been the recipi- ent of many departmental awards. Furthermore, Susan is the captain of j'town's High Q team this year. Known for her feminist philoso- phy, Susan is a member of NOW, the National Organization of Women, Susan is also a drama enthusiast. She was in the cast of the Senior Play, and she tries to see an average of two plays per month. ln her spare time, Susan enioys all types of needlework, such as knitting, ctocheting, and crewel stitchery. She loves animals, espe- cially cats and clogs, and adores Nacho-Cheese Doritoes. Ranked ninth in the class, PAUL DIDIER has received numerous academic awards. He has won the Freedoms Foundation of Valley Forge JROTC essay contest for two consecutive years. This feat has never before been achieved. He has also been the recipient of both the American Legion ,IROTC Bronze Medal for Scholastic Achievement and the Sons of the American Rev- olution ,IROTC Bronze Medal. Fur- thermore, he has won a number of .IHS departmental awards. Paul is very active in athletics in his spare time. He played on the ,IHS football team from his Fresh- BRAD HALL man to his junior year. He also has been on the basketball team for the past three years, In addition, he played on the varsity tennis team for two years, Paul hopes to attend the United States Naval Academy at Annapo- lis. Tied for fifth place, BRAD HALL is one of the more athletic members of Distinguished Stu- dents. He has played on our foot- ball team for the past four years and received an honorable mention this year for the all-state football team. He was also a member of our track team last year. A member of NHS, Brad also excels academically. He has been the recipient of a 1976 summer scholarship to Bellarmine. JEFF JONES, ranked tenth in the class, stays busy both insdie and outside school. Although his job as evening manager at Watterson Trail Exxon requires a great deal of time, he still finds time for mem- bership in NHS, In his moments of relaxation, jeff enioys sports. He further likes working on cars. jeff hopes to attend the U of L Speed School. JEFFJONES SUSAN SCHURCH, eighth ranked in the class, is the newest j'town student to be selected for Distinguished Students. Having transferred to j'town from Seneca for her junior and Senior years, she attended j'town for less than two years, as she graduated after the first quarter this year. She is now attending U of L. Susan was a mem- ber of the Pep Club, German Club, and annual staff at Seneca, while she belongs to the Beta Club there and atJ'town. Susan enjoys fashion designing and hopes to pursue a career in that area. She also likes bowling, soccer, and exotic food. GABRIEL HERNANDEZ is definitely one of the busiest mem- bers of the Senior Class. Besides studying long hours to maintain his fifth-place ranking, Gabe works at both Kingsley Food Market and ,Jasco Products. Yet he still finds time to participate in track, NHS, Beta Club, and Pep Club. Beyond his responsibilities as Ad Manager for the Annual, Gabe spends many hours doing all sorts of odd iobs required in the publication of the annual. Gabe also works hard as SUSAN SCHURCH Senior Class president. Gabe is proud of his track achievements. He was a member of the 1975 mile-relay team which placed first among seven national teams in the AAU meet in Ohio. Academically, on the other hand, he was recently awarded a Regeants Scholarship from WKU. In his spare time, Gabe rides motorcycles, works on his car, and practices karate.
