SENIOR WILL We the class of '52 of the Jefferson High School, of the county of Ad- ams, of the State of Indiana, being sane and sound, Hwith a few exceptions? in a weak condition after four hard, dreary years of work, do hereby pub- lish our last will and testament. We now recall each and every promise made by us, either as a group or individual person, in answer to many re- quests by underclassmates. TO WIT: I, Marilyn Brewster, will my short hair to Sharon Teeple, some of my weight to Barbara Lehman, and my ability to skip study hall to anyone who can get by with it. I, Virginia Brewster, will my ability to get in trouble in English class to anyone who can get by with it, and my dark hair to Imogene Miller. I, Richard Keller, will my seat in front of Mrs. Johnson to James Patch, my blonde hair to Donald Charleston, and my History book, which I don't own, to Barbara Lehman. I, Gilly Kuhn, will my height to Sharon Teeple, my glasses to Richard Stuber, and my place on the basketball team to Glen Gerber. I, Larry Miller, will my ability to get along with the teachers to James Patch, my good looking girls to Bob Switzer, and my typing book to Don Charleston. I, Jack Wendel, will my weight and short hair to Frank Wellman and my ability to swear to Patty Kelly. Seven SENIOR HISTORY In the fall of 1939, twelve boys ad girls started their long journey through school. The names of the pupils were, Clara Louise Baker, Joyce Brock, Virginia Brewster, Rhita Butcher, Daisy Davis, Richard Dudgeon, Vera Foreman, Margie Smitley, Menno Schwartz Junior, Uriah Schwartz. Virginia Brewster was the only one who finished all 12 years of her school- ing at Jefferson. Madeline Steinbrunner was our first and second grade- teacher. Helen Kenney was our third and fourth grade teacher. Bonnie Jean Wall and Claranell Sprunger started their third grade here, but we lost both of them before the year was over. In the fourth grade we gained four, Josephine Ortz, John Overholser, Susan Rumple, and Mary Hilty. Mrs. Paul Beaty was our fifth and sixth grade teacher. We had three new members in the fifth grade, Richard Keller, Mary Farmer and Jacob Hilty. There were six who never came back. There were nine of us who started our first year of Junior High. Vir- ginia Brewster, Mary Farmer, Jacob Hilty, Mary Hilty, Richard Keller, Johnny Overholser, Susan Rumple, Margie Smitley, and Jack Wendel. In our Freshman and Sophomore year there were ten students. They were Larry Miller, Johnny Overholser, Gerald R. Miller, Richard Keller, Lindell Ross, Jack Wendel and Gilly Kuhn. Marilyn Brewster finished her Sophomore year at Jefferson. Miss Courtney was our Freshman Class sponsor and Mr. Claren Neuenschwander was our Sophomore sponsor. In our Junior year we lost Gerald Miller, Susan Rumple, and Margie Smitley. The Junior Fall Festival was a great success. The Junior boys also did a swell job on the basketball Hoor. Mr. Boller was our Junior class sponsor. In the fall of our Senior year Mr. Albright was appointed class spon- sor. We chose Richard Keller as president, Jack Wendel, vice president, Virginia Brewster, secretary and treasurer. We lost Lindell Ross and John Overholser in our Senior year. Representing the Seniors on the Varsity team are: Jack Wendel, Dick Keller, Gilly Kuhn, and Larry Miller. Bob Switzer, Barbara Lehman Row 2: Jim Patch, Sharon Teeple, Donald Charleston, Dick Stuber CLASS HISTORY Eleven years ago in September of 1941, a group of excited young chil- dren met in the first grade room of the Jefferson Township High School. It is interesting to note that out of twenty-two pupils that filled Mrs. Stein- brunner's room for the first time, only four remain, but we have picked up a few here and there since then, which now totals ten. The four which have attended Jefferson High all eleven years are, Don Charleston, Bar- bara Lehman, Pat Kelly, and Dick Stuber. Bob Switzer had the privilege of starting a year before us, but is with us now. After Miss Steinbrunner promoted us into the second grade, we added a new member into our class which happened to be Glen Gerber. Unfortunately, by the time the semester was over, Miss Steinbrunner had only seventeen pupils left. As we went from the third grade to the seventh grade we had just a few changes. Helen Kenney was our third and fourth grade teacher and Mrs. Paul Beaty was our fifth and sixth grade teacher. During the Hfth and sixth grade years, we lost one member and gained one. The one we lost happened to be Glen Gerber, and one we gained was Imogene Miller. Our first year of Junior High was pleasantly spent, with Miss Court- ney as our class sponsor. Here Miss Courtney guided us through a whole new world of school life. Here we learned the basic of class business. such as raising small sums of money, for which we could use later in the coming years. We had gained another new student for the coming year who was Sharon Teeple. Eleven From of Claren After tered our sponsor. the seventh grade we were promoted to the competent hands Neuenschwander with only thirteen students remaining. spending a profitable year with Mr. Neuenschwander We en- first grade of high school with Mrs. Davis as our home room We lost three students and gained one, thus leaving us with eleven students. Glen Gerber came back to be with us again for the following year. Passing from the ninth grade to the tenth we were welcomed by Mr. Harris, our new coach for the High School. The tenth grade was a very profitable and enjoyable year spent. We had a successful skating party with the help of Mr. Harris. Moving on into the eleventh grade we were greeted by a whole new group of teachers, Mr. Dallas Albright, our principal, Mr. Peter Metz, our new coach, Mrs. Geneva Johnson, our new English teacher, Miss Marjorie Moore, Home-EC. teacher and Mr. Jim Moore as our commercial teacher. We had a little tough luck when Mr. Metz had to leave for the service. Mr, Forsyth was our new Government teacher and Junior-High coach, replacing Mr. Metz. Mr. Moore became our High School coach, and our class sponsor. We met for class organization and elected the fol- lowing class oilicers: president, Glen Gerber, vice president, Don Charles- ton, secretary, Barbara Lehman, and treasurer, Frank Wellman. Our class is well represented on the basketball squad. They are, Bob Switzer, Richard Stuber, Don Charleston, and Frank Wellman, with Jim Patch and Glen Gerber as our student managers. Barbara Lehman is serving us as our varsity team cheerleader. We sponsored a Fall Festival which was a great success. There are now ten members left to start our senior year. A lion got loose at the circus and ran toward a man in the audience. The man broke and ran. Trainer: Don't be afraid, that lion hasn't got any teeth. Man: Maybe not, but l'm not going to stand here and be gummed to death! Dentist: Excuse me a moment, please. Patient: Where are you going? Dentist: Patient: Twelve Before beginning work on you I must have my drill. Can't you H11 a tooth without a rehearsal? IUNIOB PROPHECY While on business in Detroit, in 1970, we visited the Ritz-Splitz Night- club on 4th Boulevard. As we went in to see the floor show, who should be playing the leading role, nobody but Marilyn Brewster! As we talked to her after the show we found that the twelve young girls in the chorus lineup were hers. She also informed us that they come 'tcheaper by the dozen. Before retiring for the evening, we decided to have a midnight snack. As we were driving down Broadway, we noticed a very outstanding sign which read Brew-Stew-15c. We decided to investigate the situation and discovered that the manager was none other than Virginia Brewster. The next morning, while driving to North Dakota, we saw a game wardenls car and as we passed it, we thought we saw a very familiar face, which happened to be Larry Miller. While talking to him, he told us that he has been a game warden for the past 10 years. He informed us that he was keeping close tab on all pheasant hunters, especially Sunday hunters! Coming through Minneapolis, we stopped to see a professional basket- ball game and who should step out to fill Mikan's shoes,-after he was crowned Mr, Basketball, -nobody but Gilly Kuhn, After the game we went to the dressing room and talked with Gilly. He told us that the Lakers are now referred to as Coon and Company. On our way horneward, we stopped at the Indianapolis Speedway to see the Five Hundred Mile Classic. As we watched the race, we saw Jack Wendel speeding by in the General Motors latest racing car powered by Chevrolet. After a few laps, here came Jack around the curve pushing his hopped up Chevrolet, after his motor had burned up. As we were returning home through Blue Creek Township We passed by a prosperous looking chicken farm. We stopped in to investigate and found it was owned and operated by Richard Keller. While talking to him, we learned that he had cooked up a new formula for high school henpeck- ness. We sincerely wish all our classmates the happiness of a full and satisfy- ing life. In the third and fourth grades with Miss Kenney as our teacher we had lost a few and also gained a few new ones. In the fifth and sixth grades our teacher was Mrs. Beaty, and Paul Stolz, Olen Bollenbacher, and Clifford Kuhn joined us. In the seventh and eighth grades Orla Kuhn and Josephine Uhrick joined. our class. Linda McCain joined us in our Freshman year but Linda and Jean Weaver left us at the end of the year. At the beginning of this year we had thirteen members in our class but Olen Bollenbacher dropped out and Larry Coblentz moved to Arizona leaving only eleven members to carry on. With our sponser, Mr. Metz, we elected Roland Tumbleson as president, Clifford Kuhn as vice-president, and Jerry Mae Smitley as secretary and treasurer. On November 9th Mr. Metz had to leave us to go back to the Navy. He was replaced by Mr. Forsyth who is now our sponsor. Our class is not outdone by any other class in that we have Paul Stolz, Orla Kuhn, Richard Butcher, Roland Tumbleson, and D-avid Hammitt rep- resenting us on the basketball team, Jerry Smitley also serves as cheer- leader. We stayed after school for a Wiener roast, then we enjoyed a hayride. Mary Jane Brooks was elected as our candidate for queen. Some of the boys in our class are on the Junior High basketball team. EIGHTH GRADE CLASS HISTORY In 1950 we started the last six years of our education. It was a great mix-up having five teachers instead of one as we had in the lower grades. Our seventh year of school was started with twenty pupils and ended with eighteen. In 1951, beginning our eighth year of school, we had eighteen pupils. Marleen Cook left us, leaving only seventeen. Mrs. Johnson was our class sponsor. The class elected Fred Lehman as president, Bill Smitley as vice-president, and Carolyn Charleston as secre- tary and treasurer. Those yellow slips that I hate so, Shows Mr. Moore, that I'm just plain slow. By Pat Kelly LITERATURE My Literature period is the best, I read the first and forget the rest, Of all the grades I've got this year, Those F's in Literature brought me many a tear. By Barbara Lehman Thirty-seven GOVERNMENT CLASS Government class is the very last thing, We toss our books and give them a fling, Put on our coats and run for the door, Good-by to government-'for evermore! Sharon Teeple THE THING! !! Tall dark and handsome, But oh! what a man! Try skipping his classes, He'll catch you tif he canl. Chewing gum in class, is against his law, And if you do, your grades will fall, Who is this guy, that we've told you about? Turn to page 30, and there'll be no more doubt. Pat and Barb TEACI-lER'S PET 7 7 7 7 7 It's in Government class, that I catch all my heck, He yells and yells and says, At least show your respect? Who is this demon- he -that I'm talking about? Why, it's Mr. Forsythe-the big ole grouch, I sit there and day dream of the week-end that's past, Class is over-the bell rang-at last! I hope you realize, this poem's just a joke, But for my grades and exams-I have no hope! Pat Kelly JOLLY JUNIORS The jolly Juniors of fifty-three, Is a small class that seems to agree. In one more year we'll all be gone, But still we will sing our old school song. We still have in mind the things we have done, Of the work and play and all our fun. Junior Class The man chased the train to the end of the platform, but failed to catch it. As he walked slowly back, mopping his brow, an onlooker re- marked: Miss the train? Oh, not much, was the reply. You see. I never got to know it very well. Thirty-eight SCHOOL SONG Rah! Forty-five The Jeffersonian YEAR BOOK of JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOL Published by the SENIOR CLASS OF 1952 Our Hoosier School Master Mr. Albright is a peach, And he always remembers his job is to teach, In every class that he teaches, He never knows when to end his speeches. He teaches addition, division, and subtraction. And multiplication of some fractions. He also teaches the seventh grade's history, How he remembers it all is a mystery. He may keep us on the run, But just the same, he's lots of fun. Pat M., Imogene M., Sharon T. Moore-No More! Miss Moore fooled us all, you know, By skipping school and catching a beau, Mrs. Rhodes is now her name, A grocer's wife might bring her fame.
