B N- SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY By Erma Moody T1me 1975 Place Upland Ind1an1 I was rn the b1g town of Upland Ind1ana the other day for a v1s1t That IS the place where Jefferson Town Shlp Hlgh School 1S located I went there when I was a ktd you know I walked along the street cyelng the beautlful new gym and school bulldlng now standlng where the old one once stood I aw two d1st1ngu1shed eld erly lad1es approch1ng After taklng a second look I mstantly recogn1zed them as Mrs Sla1n and Mrs G1ft who were teachers of m1ne when I attended Jeff After CXCIl3Ilg1Ilg CIIIIIUSIHSIIC greetmgs they asked me what I had been do1ng I told them that I had marr1ed Dale and was l1v1ng 1n Ch1C3gO I explamed that l was only v1s1t1ng 1n Upland I asked them where they were golng and they sa1d to a pep sesslon that was to be held 1n the new gym They told me that Margy Martln was the eommun1ty cheerleader but she was los1ng pep fast Her husband Danny was worklng 1n hrs drug store and accldentally dlscovcred a new k1nd of p1ll He called them krck pills because they add pep to the communlty We walked back to the gym and I saw a handsome young man approachrng Mrs Sla1n Sald that tt was 11m Ir Mr Alspaugh s son She sa1d he was engaged to Nancy Mrller s daughter Nancy by the way was l1v1ng wrth her husband 1n H3W311 They were Uylng to rarse coconuts Carole Seavers had gone to Hollywood as a prlvate secretary and marr1ed Tab Hunter They were l1v1ng 1n Hawa11 too As we took our place 1n the gym I was astonlshed to see MICR Carm1n and Bob Kelly ID un1form M1ck was a member of the State P01106 and Bob was 1n the Marlnes I went down to talk to them M1ck sa1d that they were both happy and st1ll bachelors I sa1d that I dldn t see how they managed to stay srngle M1ck sa1d that every tlme a g1rl got close he acted as lf he mrght arrest her and Bob sa1d that he was st1ll small enough to hlde somewhere Whlle I was talkxng to them I saw a tall gent come w1th two l1ttle krds both redheads I recogn1zed hxm 1mmed1ately as Melvrn Carter He came over to say hello He rnformed me that he and Pat had gotten marrxed frnally The1r two chlldren were redheads Melv1n sa1d that he was worklng as an eng1neer They called htm Mr Frx tt I asked Melvrn 1f he had heard from erther Don or Jack He sa1d that they were tourlng the country each w1th hrs own l1ttle basketball team Melv1n also told me that Larry McQu1thy wrote to h1m from Georgra He was runn1ng one of the Owens Ill1no1s factorles there Larry was hooked by one of those southern belles and everythlng was flne only Larry couldn t understand half what she was talklng about I asked about SISSY Waymlre too They Sald that she had marrted Bud and was l1v1ng 1n Calrforma Bud was a frog drver and S1s was elected Mrs Frog Legs of the West Coast I glanced around the beautlful new gym and I spxed Shrrley Markrn s1tt1ng w1th her husband Everett Howard S1tt1ng next to them were two very sweet tw1n glrls Shlrley told me that she was kept pretty busy wlth the twlns and was makxng clothes as a pastrme I asked Shlrley about Beverly Blackburn She sa1d that she was marr1ed to a Uavelrng salesman and was travellng w1th hlm to see the world Shrrley told me that Tom Banter would be there shortly She sa1d that Tom had a Job d1gg1ng red worms for a nauonal f1sh1ng assocranon Tom fxnally arrrved and I talked to h1m for awhrle He told me that Fred Conelley was a farmer now Oh yes he was trylng to produce a new vegetable to support his wxfe and l1ttle blonds and brunettes Tom sa1d that he and Nancy had enough trouble ra1s1ng therr redheads I left Tom and Shrrley and wandered around the edge of the gym floor I bumped 1nto someone and was about to 8pO10g1ZC when I recogn1zed h1m as Nerl Freese He sa1d he was at the pep sessron trylng to p1Ck up a news 1tem for the Courler He Sald that he was the ed1tor He also told me to be sure to buy a copy of the paper next day because Joe Clock had made the front page He had won the 500 mrle race at Indranapolls I told Nell bye and went back to talk to Mrs Sla1n and Mrs Gxft I asked them what had become of the Matthews crowd Mrs G1ft a1d that lame He1nle1n and Becky Klbbey were both teachers R1ght now they were on a mp rn Europe to meet thexr future husbands. . , c 4 1 I ' . . . - A - . , 0 .
