Included in our class were: Tom Brown, Paul Rody , Joe Miller, Alfred Hetzner, Chester Miller, Dick Awker, Ed Lesley, John Krisher, Barry Brauneller, David See, Ruth Dice, Ann Romine, Shirley Miller, Virginia Snyder, Loretta Smith, Etta Mae Houser, Dianna Rayment, Kloretta Sutton, Betty Taggart, Martha Shilling, Donna Yoder, Linda Clarkson, and Rosanna Kline. In January Robin Mensing entered the freshman class of J- T- H- S- , making our total twenty-four- Our class sponsor was Mr- Bob Hopper- For our first class party we attended a movie before going to Betty Taggart's house for refreshments- Our second class party was a picnic at the Peru City Park. At the beginning of our sophomore year we had twenty students. We entered school that year wiser and more eager to learn- But school was not all work. The first event of the year was the initiation of the freshmen- Although the sophomores got the worst end of it, we managed to survive to enjoy a class party at Riverside Park in Logansport. Our sponsor this year was Mr. Boyer. ' Our junior year still holds many fond memories. The highlight of the year was our play, Who's Crazy Now . Under the direction of our class sponsor, Miss Fisher, it was a big success- We also proved our ability as salesmen during this year. We had charge of concessions at the basketball games. For the final event of our junior year we escorted the seniors to The Oldenburg Inn at South Bend for the Junior-Senior Reception. Our theme was Disneyland- After th banquet we all enjoyed the movie, The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit. At last we had become seniors with all the dignity and feeling of superiority that accompanies the position. The years had taken their toll so that only eleven of us were left- Even with a small class we did our part to uphold the traditions of a senior class of J- T- H- S, On March 8 we presented our play, Take It Easy , again showing our ability as actors and actresses- Upon becoming seniors our first thought was, of course, the senior trip- We spon- sored several money-making projects. Selling magazines and Stanley products were the first- Our most successful project was the Halloween carnival. On March 30, when we left on our senior trip for Washington, D- C-, and New York, N- Y-, we felt that we had reached our first goal- Our main goal was reached on May 10--GRADUATION Now our days at J- T- H- S- are over, and we are ready to go out into the world and really prove, as our motto states, LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT- 6 Claw Will We, the seniors of Jefferson Township High School, Class of '57, having attained the superlative degree of learning from our most educated teachers, have had our character and reputation ripened until we have come to be known as the best manner- ed well-spoken class as yet to graduate- During our years at this beloved school, where the dearest and best are met, we have accumulated many items which we feel will do us no good on the outside - It is with deep reverence that we are giving these invaluable items to the remaining students and teachers- We sincerely hope that they will be cherished by all and used to bring about the maximum in pleasure and profit- We will and bequeath to the juniors the wonderful thrill and sense of accomplishrnent that can come only from cleaning up the gym after a ball game- To the microscopic- minded juniors we wish also to leave our ability of being the most highly educated of persons in this building- We will and bequeath to the sophomores, who have their own inimitable style of writing, any old bits of chewed-up pencils and eraser shavings they might have the good fortune to find. The sophomores will also receive from this most generous class a pile of dinner plates, which they are-to knock over daily, withoutbeing instructed to do so- We will and bequeath to the freshmen the freezer - Q To whom it may concern, this is the biology room-D .Because the freshmen have become so skillful in spending their biology period in the study hall, we leave to them our comfortable assembly seats- We will and bequeath to the teachers of ole J-T-H-S- an up-coming senior class into whose heads the educated teachers will have to pound knowledge- We would also like you to accept with our compliments a bottle of aspirin- I, Ruthie D-, will and bequeath my ability to be always dignified and sophisticated as a senior should be to Connie Rairigh- I, .Toe M-, will and bequeath my ability to fully understand physics and get a good grade without a full scale war to Sharon Wolfe- I, Ann R-, will and bequeath my ability to sing to Ben Prior- I, Tom B-, will and bequeath my ability to go to the library for long periods of time to Jane Eikenberry- I, Virginia S-, will and bequeath my ability to wear short hair to Linda Shilling- I, Alfred H-, will and bequeath my beaming face and broad shoulders to Ronnie Byrd- I, Shirley M-, 'will and bequeath my ability to get along with Mr- Miller to Rita Ege- I, Robin M-, will and bequeath my name of gutterball to Susie Winningham- I, Ann R-, will and bequeath my ability to drop English at the end of the first sem- ester to Bessie Alexander- I, Chester M-, will and bequeath my one-way ticket to Alcatraz to Carolyn Snyder- I, Ruthie D-, will and bequeath my ability to ride in a '47 Ford to Judy Heckathorn- I, Dick A-, will and bequeath my ability to stay away from the office as often as I can to Lamoine Correll- I I, Shirley M-, will and bequeath my ability to read a literature lesson over once and get nothing from it to Carolyn Baker- I, Paul R-, will and bequeath my ability to smile and look pleasant in the assembly to Shirlee Wellsand- I, Ruthie D-, will and bequeath my ability to play lst sax to Sonna Fahl- I, Dick A-, will and bequeath my ability to eat candy in Miss Fisher's assembly to Joe Carroll- I, Shirley M-, will and bequeath my ability to be a quiet-spoken, well-mannered girl at all times to .Teri Burton- I, Torn B-, will and bequeath my ability not to go steady to Tom Clark- I, Virginia S-, will and bequeath my ability to drive two years and only hit one light pole to Alice Ann Sullivan- I, Alfred H-, will and bequeath my ability to get three -day passes to Carter Murphy- I, Robin M-, will and bequeath my ability to keep training rules to Dick Devine- I, Ann R-, will and bequeath my ability to sit in the study hall beside an open window without catching cold to Vicki Snyder- I, Paul R-, will and bequeath my ability to stay out until all hours to Carolyn Fnouts and a few others- l, .Toe M-, will and bequeath my ability to grow sideburns to Nancy Baber and Janice Flook- Prophecy As the Earth gracefully comes over the crystal-clear horizon, I began to set the tri- pods on my super-duper-cinerama-camera with my extra long-range sound recorder- Upon bringing the Earth into view and focus, I began the search for my fellow classmates of 6l57l!. The first ex-senior that I located was the well-noted opera singer Ann Romine , singing before 20,000 Colorado opera critics The Eyes of Texas Are Upon Y'al - Then through the eye of my super-duper-cinerama-camera I saw Alfred Hetzner and his ten little kids scaling up the highest rock formation in the Grand Canyon Qundoubt- ly prospecting for Uraniuml- As the Earth slowly turned I lost view of Alfred: and the next thing I knew Tom Brown flashed on the screen- Already one gun was empty, and he was drawing the other from its holster- Minutes later it was all over: mashed men were lying all over the placei and Injuns were hanging by their toes from the rafters of the saloon- It was the fifth time that day Tom had saved the town of Red-Dog from the Siouan Winnebago Indians and the Big Jim Brady gang Qproduced by M-G-M-5 color by technicolorl- As the Earth turned and my super-duper-cinerama-camera moved across the ocean, I came upon a heart-breaking sight- Robert John Eric Mensing was marooned on a tropical island fwith hundreds of native girlsl- Of course I will notify a rescue party when I get back ten years from now- As the Earth slowly turned, Ifinally got view of the continent of Asia- There on Red Square on a platform in front of a statue of Washington was Shirley Miller - Every morning she reads the constitution of the U.nited States of America to the entire Russian army and makes them pledge allegiance to our flag- Lowering my camera one' degree S- S-E-, I set my long range sound recorder to pick up all available noises- Within moments it was receiving a noise that sounded like a rocket K88J- Sure enough there was Chester Miller in the middle of Saudia Arabia drag-racing with a camel- QThey were neck and neck-Q Lowering my camera one more degree S-S-S-, I came upon an ex-senior in distress- There in the African jungle was Dick Awker - Dick was doing missionary work with a tribe of head hunters : and they were getting ready to burn him at the stake for calling their chieftain a heathen- F ortunatly it wasduringthe rainy season, and they cou1dn't find any dry wood- Turning my camera northwestward, I picked up what seemed to be a blonde bomb shell- Of course it was Ruthie Dice in her annual performance at London, England- Here she does a smoke dance for five dollars a ticket- lShe lives in the highest income bracket possible-I Also there in London I found Virginia Snyder - Virginia was the only senior that really made a big success- She crossed a European Corn Borer with a Japanese Bean Beetle- She came up with a Japanese Bean Borer, which is now boring all the beans in Asia- After searching over the rest of the world, I concluded that the notorious Paul Rody was no longer on Earth- So turning my super-duper-cinerama-camera toward Mars, I came upon a most extraordinary sight- There was Paul doing the New Fangled Tango with a Marsian pygmy- Report to the Universe Stationed on the Moon JOE MILLER, Ph- s., M.
