Our class was different from most classes in that we seemed to be unable to keep our members. We started out with a fairly good- sized class, in fact, there was fifteen of us. Helen Eikenberry, Janice Fishback, Marilou Murphy, Ethel Smith, Mavis Harrison, Janice lmhoof, Jim Myers, Marie Hillman, Phyllis Cassidy, Dana Rozell, Neil Krisher, Pat Arnold, Bill Peppers, Dick Romine, and Marvin Winningham. Two people left during our first year of high school life--Marie Hillman and Marvin Winningham. That left us keeping thirteen members. During the first semester we had a class party at Janice Irnhoof's home. Our sponsor that year was Cecil Powell, who was a real help to us in getting acquainted with the routine of high school life. We managed to survive both the mental and physical torture of our freshman initiation with no help from the Sophomore class. After initiation, the Sophomores held a weiner roast in.our honor. The second semester, we enjoyed a chili supper at Helen Eikenberry's home and went to a movie, Dancing in the Dark . Through some strange and mysterious twist of fate, we managed to pass our exams and became fully pledged Sophomores. Phyllis Cassidy, Janice Imhoof, Jim Myers, Mavis Harrison and Neil Krisher left our midst during our Sophomore year, but we gained Judy Sipe. By this time some of our greenness had worn off and we looked upon our upper classmen as friends instead of foes The first big evenhwas a skating party held at Rock Lake Rollercade. Our sponsor for the Sophomore year, was Mr. Gaiser. We also had another theater party, and saw Halls of Montezuma at Peru. We decided on our class rings during the second semester of our Sophomore year and on the last day all were promoted, with high honors, to the Junior class. For all classes the Junior year proves 'to be the most exciting. Selling at concessions for the ball games, popping corn, experiencing the great thrill of being in our first play, and receiving our class rings and sweaters, all were crowded together into one short year. For us, the class of 53 , the Junior year was even more exciting because we also took our Senior trip that year. We accompanied the Seniors to Washington, D. C. Mr. and Mrs. Gaiser went with us as chaperons and everyone had a very wonderful time. Miss Fisher, who was our class sponsor, was also the director of our play, Who's Batty Now? . At the end of the year, after much planning, we gave a reception for the Senior class at the Honeywell Memorial in Wabash. We were served an excellent meal and the evening was greatly enjoyed by everyone. Dana Rozell did not come back for the Senior year, seems as though she preferred Ronnie Fishback's company to ours. We gained two new students at the beginning of the year--Delores Kellems and Jim Winters--but they both left shortly after the beginning of the school term. Our Senior year was somewhat different from the previous years, for we decided not to give a Senior Play. 13 However, our Halloween Carnival was a huge success. The queen was Patsy Raber, a Junior, whose attendants were Pat Arnold, Senior, Judy Benedict, Sophomore: and Marilyn Fouts, Freshman. By this time our class has dwindled to eight members. I belive it is one of the smallest graduating classes Mexico has had for quite a few years, but I am certain that it is the best. Last Will and Testament of the Class of 53'! There before a smouldering fire Sat a merry band, Laughing, singing, gaily talking Of far and traveled lands. To a dark-eyed gypsy maiden, hese very words: know our Senior Class? me, have you heard they have wandered? of their fate. , Gypsy maiden. I spoke t Do you Oh, tell Whither Tell me Tell me I fear 'tis too late. She laughed and gaily said: Oh, you I'1l gladly tell Of your own classmates, And so all is well.
