1950 High School History On September 1, 1945, twenty-six Freshman entered Mexico High School. This group consisted of ten girls: Wilma Draper, Janice Howell, Jacqueline johnson, Louise johnson, Georgia jordan, Ethel Keyes, Mary Overfield, Lois Shultz, Betty Wright, Myra Williams, and fourteen boys: Johnny Arwood, Kenny Barb er, David Cunningham, Kenneth Dillman, Richard Dillman, Kenneth Fivecoate, Charles Fouts, Tommy Fraling, Don I-leckathorn, Fred Lesley, Elvin Myers, Melvin Myers, Charles Rozell and Donald Staller. Before we were accepted as students of Mexico High School we were initiated by the Sophomores. After getting acquainted with the new students who entered our class we then had a Wiener roast at Louise Johnson's home. This is only one of the good times we had during the Freshman year. During this year Mexico won both basketball and .bas eball champion- ships, in which our Sophomore boys took part. During our junior year we received our class rings and sweaters which we considered as appropriate symbols of our school. In the beginning of the year we lost Don Heckathorn and Norma Shambarger, who had joined us during our Sophormore year, and gained one new student, Flora Barnett. Looking forward to our Senior Trip we started raising money by taking charge of the concessions at the ball games. We then, with the help of Miss Clauda Fisher, presented a play called, Babies Night Out. At the close of our Junior year we gave a reception for the Senior class. We took them to Huntington, Indiana, at the La Fountaine Hotel. Our theme was The 49'ers. We decorated the tables with a covered wagon as the centerpiece, and little gold cups as our place cards. After the banquet we took them to see Blondie In The Dough. We made a good start in our Senior year by organizing one of the most interesting carnivals ever put on at J. T. H. S. Two weeks before the carnival we had each class select a candidate for queen. The girl with the highest number of votes was to be crowned as the carnival queen. Wilmalou Draper of our class was elected queen of the carnival. She received as a prize a beautiful strand ofpearls and a dozen-red roses. After the carnival, we rushed right into the preparation of our Senior play. We chose the play entitled, A Pair of Country Kids. We then had the honor, having four of our boys on the team, which won the Four-Way Tourney. After four years of hard study, we now bid farewell to good old j. T. H. 1 1 .
