The Glee Club provides singing under a director for the first time for many students. Only student accompanists are used when instruments are needed. In 1956, Jeffersonts Glee Club was organized. A group of students asked Mr. Erwin if they could have a singing organization. Mr. Erwin told them they could have a glee club if it could meet in the morn- ings so that members of the band and orchestra could also be members. There are still some band and orchestra participants in the Glee Club. Since band and sports participants have uniforms, the Glee Club members thought they should, too; therefore, they sold candy and were able to purchase sixty-eight choir robes of a bright red color. In the Glee Club nobody is left out. Anybody who wants to may join. There are no tryouts. Only the Ensemble is hand-picked. 120
