Crepe paper streamers, new outfits, and flowers provide a special touch to the Homecoming dance. Get up and boogie, get down tonight, and shake your booties were some of the more popular phrases heard at this year's mixers and dances. The traditional Back to School Dance and Homecoming Dance were well attended as student interest in mixers rapidly in- creased. Bands ranged from the bubbIe man Lawrence Welk to the best of the Eagles and Peter Frampton. In the spring, a new twist was added during Women Pay All QWPAD week, when the girls were given the opportunity to hustle their favorite guy or guys and take them to the WPA dance. Overall, students seemed pleased with the outcome of the mixers and dances this year. Soft music and slow dancing are two of the more enjoyable aspects of atten- ding the annual Homecoming dance., Couples, enjoying the company of their friends. dance to the music of Fan- fare at a mixer.

' I ' S. as gsm 'Q J LXQ World-wide happenings and events may seem relatively unimport- ant in the everyday lives of busy high school students, but they do have definite long range consequences. The school year 76-77 had its share of significant news events to remember. With the election of Jimmy Carter as the 39th President, there was much controversy over which candidate could best lead our country on to greater prosperity. There were even some seniors who were able to actively support their candidate by voting in their first presidential election. Is capital punishment morally right? was the question that was discussed in Mr. Jack Fisk's government classes, as Gary Gilmore shocked the country by demanding his own death sentence. Farrah Fawcett-Majors and her famous swim suit poster prompted envious remarks from the girls but strong approval from In the news 4' If p ' Q , is . The bitter cold winter, and a plea from Washington, brought temperatures to even lower extremes as school thermostats were lowered to a frigid 65 degrees. Senior Diane Davis commented, The really cold weather bothered me most when my car wouIdn't start in the morningl Our country had experienced the coldest winter in several decades. On the movie scene, Rocky won the Academy Award for Pic- ture of the Year, while Evergreen was named Song of the Year. Receiving seven perfect scores for her Olympic performances, Nadia Comanecia, the fourteen year old gymnast from Romania, was the undisputed queen of the 1976 Olympic games in Montreal. These are a few of the more memorable events that made the 76-77 school year distinguishable from any other year. -Jody Doyle
