lnspired by the music, junior Kendra Gevock exuberantly moves to the beat at an after-game mixer. Boogie'n down to their favor- ite hot spot on a Friday night was a fre- quent way for most students to escape from the pressures and headaches of school and enjoy the freedom of a two day breather. For those with large appetites and a lot of time on their hands, pizza places were a big hit. After bowling a few frames or catching the latest flick, many students stopped to grab a bite to eat or just get together with the gang and have a good time. For sophomores, the frequent trips up and down the avenue proved to be only stalling tactics while they were getting up their nerve to buy some refreshments at one of the many Quick-Trips they had passed ten or fifteen times. lf you were one of the students who was short on funds, the best place to be was back at school watching one of the many varied athletic activities or dancing at one of the mixers. wwf-143' Stopping at McDonald's, seniors Rick Cole and Lee Selinger pause to munch out during an exciting night on the town. Homecoming began earlier this year, or at least this was the belief ex- pressed by many Jefferson students. Editorials and numerous cartoons appeared in the school newspaper criticizing the girls for starting their smile campaign so early. The girls were thought to be out getting votes when they were actually only being themselves, or at least most of them. Twenty-five senior girls were selected by popular vote of the senior class. The students then went on to choose the nine finalists, and finally the coveted position of Jefferson's 1976 Homecom- ing queen was decided. One change that took place this year was the dropping of the speeches usually made by the nine finalists. This sparked a small controversy because this meant that many juniors and sophomores voted for a queen on mere sight alone. Senior Jill Cocciole clutches escort Mike llten's arm after being named as one of the 25 semi-finalists. 14 Homecoming
