After witnessing the football team advance to the second round of the state play- offs, seeing the volleyball team capture third place in the Metro, and concluding the season with a second place finish in the boys state gym- nastics meet, word spread that Jefferson was a top contender in all areas, and that what we had was talent. The fall play, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty , was a huge success. and Senior Senate sponsored a Pancake Supper that supplied a relaxing breather to an otherwise hec- tic term. After the Outlook received an All- American rating for the 14th consecutive time and the Statesman was displayed at a national convention in San Antonio, Texas, we could final- ly grasp what the cheerleaders had been saying all along. What did we have? We had the school spirit and the cooperation to make this year the best ever. lt was our constant hope to prove that the West really was No. 1. i iff: s

Although pizza spots were still popular, many students also found 0scar's and Bugsy's very en- joyable. For the adventurous students who got out of school before 1 p.m., afternoons also supplied plenty of free time. Playing foosball and talking on the telephone were a few of the indoor activities, while the nature lovers were frequent- ly seen riding bicycles, horses, or motorcyles. Student life was definitely a vital part of our attempt to prove that The West is No. 1. ' fy, .Y
