Next year Jefferson will be different, particularly in two de- partments, the Live Wire office and the physics classes. The smile and friendly greeting of Mr. Walter Wood will be miss- ing, but not forgotten, for Mr. Wood is retiring after spend- ing thirty-two years teaching at Jeff. After graduation from college Mr. Wood decided to be- come a teacher instead of entering the business world. Asked about his reason for doing this and also his reason for remain- ing so long in teaching, he replied, My incentive was and has been my love of young folks. Being a modest person, Mr. Wood will never tell you about the activity of which he is most proud: The Live Wire office sold more than $100,000 worth of war bonds during World War II. Mr. Wood amazingly keeps his genial good humor even with all the nerve-jangling situations which arise from run- ning an $80,0CO-a-year business. That much money last year passed through the Live Wire Office. After retiring he plans to pursue his two hobbies of hunt- ing and fishing. When a new and spacious Jefferson high school is built upon these grounds wouldn't it be appropriate to honor the memory of this man who has spent his lifetime teaching here? What would you think of the Walter Wood Science Wing? It would be a fitting tribute and a living memorial.
