ITHIN the hearts of every- one there is a pride which comes with the knowledge that we belong to the some school from which so many successful people have graduated. To be successful we do not have to be outstanding in a particular field; but we must live a good life, must be considered of high moral worth and must be respected by those with whom we associate. In other words a good citi- zen is a successful person. All of us can be good citizens. Today the responsibility for continuing Jefferson's reputation is being placed di- rectly upon the shoulders of you graduates. By your deeds and octions our school is measured. Your outstanding achievements and your good citizenship will be reflected in the glory of the school. We who remain ot Jefferson know that throughout life you will maintain Jeffer- son's High Standards. Mr. C. L. Jones Our Captain 10

During its forty two-year history Jefferson High School has excelled in every field of endeavor, including scholarship, music, citizenship, and athletics. It has produced men and women who ore now the leaders in their respective vocations. Its athletic teams have won so many championships thot the very name Jefferson is now synonymous with being tops in the sports world. Our school is noted for its democratic spirit and is very fittingly named after one of our nation's most famous leaders, Thomas Jefferson. He, during his lifetime, advanced the causes which we the students of Jefferson High School are now try- ing to achieve in our own small way. Every present and future Jeffersonian has a greot tradition to live up to, for they who follow in the footsteps of the alumni must at all times strive to reach os high a goal as have others in the past. We of the Spectrum staff feel it is now time to stop, think of the past and plan for a greater future. 9

The Jefferson Spirit that becomes part of our very be- ing is the culmination of our efforts. —Miss Dorothy Flegel Jefferson High School aims to provide a four-yeor period of satisfying experiences that will serve as an effective background for another period of up to fifty years of successful living in this or another community. The understanding, the responsibility, self control and spirit of cooperation thot are devel- oped day by day in this and similar institutions will surely determine the limitations of that life. It is my sincere hope that the present high school generation will be the one to realize that by careful planning and vigorous follow through, the future can be made. —Mr. L. C.
