Only as these two principles are co-ordinated can a nation become great. To-day, more than ever before in history, our way of life is threatened. We, the class of 1951, recognize our own obligations to shoulder responsibilities and to protect what we hold dear. As loyal citizens we must all be willing to fight and to work for this great country of ours. In these difficult days may our prayer be: America! America! God shed His grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea. P N TI-IY WALLS, THY HALLOWED HALLS, OUR PRAISES STILL RING CLEAR. Getting lost was the order of the day. Some of these same souls may' still be encountered wandering blindly on the third floor, looking-so they say-for Room 116. ln September 1947, 210 ninth graders returned to pursue their search for learning, rooms and friends. September 1948 revealed 189 eager beavers racing to get front seats for the newly state-mandated tenth grade subjects-World History and hygiene. This year they knew all the answers. September 1949 found 181 important juniors, full of information and know- how. The Junior Prom was the sharp affair of this year, with attractively- gowned girls and smartly groomed men. High lights of this year were: National Honor Society and Craft Guild elections and banquets. In September 1950, 156 dignified seniors welcomed the newly-opened corridors on the first floor and were intrigued with the guidance center replac- ing the veterans' offices. There they were greeted by counselors, Suter, Lowell and Kelley, peering at them over pamphlet-covered desks. There are many never-to-be-forgotten days of this momentous year: the getting of pins and rings, the dances, the Senior Prom, the Crowning of the May Queen, and the g reatest of all- - Commencement. 54 CLASS OF '51 Anthony Giardina Pre sident Ralph Dandrea Bruce Barclay Treasurer Social Chairman Clementine Andreano Frances Adamo Social Chairman Secretary O senior class just goes about the business of its last year in school - electing senior officers, organizing for the yearbook, planning for the prom fand where we'll go after- wards!l, getting ready for the banquet, sweating out the senior speeches, eating out the senior luncheons, betting on the last May Queen, looking ahead to the last senior assembly - without once in a while having a queasy feeling that this is it. For a lot of us it's more than the end of being together during five years of high school - it's the end of being together for all our school lives, and that's an awful long time. lt's taken more than one filibustering campaign to get us where we are. We've had to do some tall maneauvering to keep our parents at home, now and then, where they could remain happy and in blissful ignorance of some of the tripe we tried to pull. No one can ever really appreciate the amount of time and effort we have put into planning how to escape doing the things we were supposed to do for our own good. Sometimes the ideas worked out: just as many times they didn't, and then we had to do what was supposed to be good for us. Anyway, it was a heck of a lot of fun trying to beat the educational racket. We've been told that it won't take many years out of school to bring us to our senses, to make us realize how fortunate we were to have had the advantages of high school, how much we muffed, how much more we might have had. Maybe. But this is it. This is the end. Graduation is here. We've got to go, and we're not just sure that we want to go. We've been having a good time, and we're not sure we're going to have as good a time next year. You teachers and all you younger kids are sure to have a good time next year when we have gone - while we are going to have to go to work. This is the senior farewell - we really have had a good time, and we really appreciate everything. Good-bye now. 55 Jean Ciardi Esther Nucci Noreen Pezzulo Louise Corona Dolores DeCillis SENICR HONCR RGLL S this Yearbook goes to press, the following seniors have maintained their high ratings on the scholastic honor roll: Marie Dennison Steve Gruttadauria Merilda LeClair Geraldine Salsedo George Scardetta Norene Smith Shirley Altpeter Gloria lacobucci Matthew Mauro Louis Piccarreto CLASS NOTABLES Ideal Couple Most Brilliant Boy Athlete Girl Athlete Class Artist Best Natured Boy Best Natured Girl Most Gullible Class Musicians Class Acrobat Best Actors Heartbreaker Most Demure Class Jester Most Likely to Succeed CGirll Sam Spinosa and Sue Louis Piccarreto Anthony Giardina Norene Smith John Morrell Steve Gruttadauria Barbara Scarsella Marie Dennison Tiebe Elvera Rotolo Carol Ryan Isabelle Sciscioli Audrey Scott Chuck Nick and Elmer Mongelli George Scardetta Herb Muktarian and Russ Manzone Sam Dee Rose Mentesano Gregory Muktarian Jean Ciardi Most Likely to Succeed fBoyj Matthew Mauro Q6 ,nn- JULIAN LOWELL C R.
