By their untiring efforts they have made it possible for us to realize the aims of true education. THE LANGUAGES Versatility, learning, and culture are the distinguishing features of Jeflerson's Language Department, which has the spotlight and deserves it. ENGLISH - Helen Flanagan, Lester Kelley, Johanna Miceli, Theresa Kummer lMrs.l, Margaret Suter lMrs.l, Alice Hiltchinson, Martina Rodney lMrs.l. ENGLISH-LATIN - Elizabeth Brown, Maud Mitchell. ITALIAN -lLena Pitoni lMrs.l. COMMERCIAL Same of the best secretaries in this city are graduates of Jefferson High, This is not surprising to those who know Jelferson's capable commercial teachers. Genevieve Cazeau, Nancy Hause, Lucy Murphy, Mildred Philley, Edna Schaich, Commercial-Vocational - Lucy Murphy, Edna Schaich, Lloyd Swart. MATHEMATICS Mathematics is not an easy subiect to teach. Jefferson's able Mathematics Department is well equipped to handle this branch of knowledge. The de- partment, under the direction of Mr. Paul Welton, is composed of: Ruth Bullock, Ethel Collier lMrs.l, Jane Gallagher, Lucia Gridley, Alice Hassett, Edward Smith. SOCIAL STUDIES One of the outstanding faculty groups is the Social Studies Department. lt has a large and interesting personnel. Ethel Collier lMrs.l, Helen Flanagan, Beverly Francis, Lester Kelley, Edna Kelly, Margaret Suter lMrs.l, Julian Lowell, James Martin, Johanna Miceli Lena Pitoni lMrs.l, Martina Rodney lMrs.l. SCIENCE Science today offers a great field of endeavor. Jefferson's Science Depart- ment is doing much to inspire students in this direction. Heading it is Mr. Paul Welton. Claude Beegle, Rudolph Illig, Mary Ordway lMrs.l, Joseph Reed. MUSIC At Jefferson music is considered as one of the natural outlets of our boys' and girls' self-expression and is fostered as such. The School Band and Orchestra and the Choir present a concert each year, as well as furnishing music for our assemblies. The band is always a highlight at our football games. Rodney Peterson-Instrumental, Austin Truitt-Vocal, Anna Ray lMrs.l- Pianisl. ART Into the picture fits our Art Department. lts tireless efforts in behalf of art at Jefferson merit our applause. We can truly say of Mrs. Esther Schreib and the Art Department, Ready-Willing-Able. GUIDANCE Guiding the pupil in Jefferson High School is the responsibility of every teacher. They endeavor to develop character, teach citizenship, discover interests and aptitudes, and aid the pupil in successful living. Our part-time guidance counselor is Mr. Lester Kelley. HEALTH EDUCATION There is certainly activity galore in this department. Credit for so much ex- penditute of energy goes to our alert health education instructors. Raymond Brice-Head of Physical Education Department, Nick Zona, David Campbell, Kathryn Gaffney, Letah Blizard. HOME ECONOMICS Thanks to this department Jefferson is turning out some truly domestic girls. Miss Charlotte Strobel, Miss Genevieve Cazeau, Miss Marie Sawers, and Miss Jessie Cale' give generously of their'time and effort in behalf of so worthy an endeavor. PRACTICAL ARTS lndustry is now looking to the boys in this department for recruits. Under the able guidance of these teachers we are able to send our boys On Their Way with a working knowledge of certain shops. Leroy Bruce, John Deal, Orange Harman, Casper Joerger, Edward Smith, Kenneth Tompkins. Mr. Arthur Neff heads this department. LIBRARY One need not marvel at JefTerson's well-regulated library system, for it is under most ehicient management. Petite Mrs. Josephine Sciarratta enlightens the students on library procedure and teaches them how to benefit from the ample supply of varied books for whose selection she is responsible. DRAMATICS The play's the thing -Shakespeare With this thought in mind, the Dramatics class, under the able dire 'an of Mrs. Pauline Seibold, has striven to bring to the JeffHe:,oq. ag many a noteworthy production. if 1 7
