We are now ready to perform more important roles in the complex drama of life. May we play our parts in life as well as we have played them at Jefferson. We are On Our Way. 2 ADMINISTRATION ln appreciation: ol Miss Shelmadine, who has steered us wisely and carefully in our choice of vocation-of Miss McCarty and Mr. Saxe, who have always listened to our problems and helped us solve them whether they were money, jobs or haircuts-of Mr. Welton, whose hand guides the machine of math and science smoothly and with little difficulty-ol Mr. Brice, who has made us enjoy the privileges of gym, swimming and hygiene however reluctantly we did it. CHEERLEADERS Jefferson High's cheerleading squad is composed ol four members with Lisa Amorese and Frank Cuomo as leaders. The fact that we had the city's highest scorer and still finished with a record ot 6 wins against l2 losses shows how hard it is to win games without height on the team. Our boys were never quitters, and every opponent knew he was in a ball game. Thanks to Howie Long, our coach, for a very nice iob and we hope that he will be with us next season to gain greater heights. Highlight of the season was our defeat of Franklin which boasted several top flight swimmers, However the score lett nothing to be desired. Gene Brendel was outstanding, not only as Captain but as chief point-getter. a Q al if' The l948-49 season has demonstrated that Jefierson must be recognized as a top performer in wrestling. While we came out on the short end of the Championship Match against Charlotte that memorable March 3rd night, our record is one of which we may well be proud, Orchids to our senior wrestlers, Pete Biocca and Bob Veltre, for a fine season. It is here that we find ideas, obtain information, enrich our experiences, and equip ourselves to be better citizens. To accomplish these purposes the li- brary purchases good wholesome books, encourages extensive reading, and helps with individual problems. To promote pupil enioyment of the li- brary facilities, class instruction is given on the use of the library and of current material. Through helping in the library before and after school and during study periods, many pupils not only spend pleasant hours but learn the tech- nique of library organization. YPA? For this moment we have waited, dreamed, and worked so long that it still seems a desire unfulfilled. We stand bewildered as we look before us into this complex world, unsympathetic, perhaps, and harsh in its iudgments. On Our Way -ambition takes many forms, to some it is higher learning, to others the thrill ofthe business world and a career, to others a home filled with contentment and happiness. We wait uncertainly but hopefully, and after gradu- ation still remains a question. 4 The class of 1949, with happiness and anticipation, now reluctantly departs from Jefferson High School. The year is finished. The Senior Ball is over. All ofthe hard work is done. The feeling of regret is still with us, but it is tempered by the expectation ot new work and life ahead. On Our Way School days are over. The class of l949 is leaving these halls. To all of them, goodbye, good luck and remember. OUTSTANDING SENIORS By combining industry with intelligence, two Jefilersonians have earned special honor. Each has been attracted not only to studies but also to extra-curricular activities.
