Flair if i ill 4 mv y The Homecoming bonfire produces the spark of determination for the much anticipated game against Richmond. Our fan support, from students and adults alike. has been strong all year long. l'm certain that a portion of the extra effort we extended against Richmond resulted from the week-long efforts of the student body. and particularly the varsity cheerleaders, to get behind us, commented Coach Dave Knott. The week-long efforts leading up to Friday, October I4, to which he referred, included the bonfire, spirit competitions, hall decorations and the crowning of Jenny Dible as Homecoming Queen, The long-anticipated game pitted Jeff against conference rival Richmond. After playing two quarters of scoreless ball, Jeff placed points on the scoreboard in the third quarter, when Gary Little ran 65 yards for a touchdown. Gregg Thomas followed by kicking the extra-point conversion, which proved to be the winning factor of the game, as the final score was 7-6 in favor of Jeff. Looking back on the game Coach Knott remarked, For the first time all year long we reduced our offensive errors to zero, while Richmond committed five. That, coupled with the superior effort of our defensive team, resulted in a big victory. The team has reason to cheer. for the final socre was 7-6 in favor of Jeff, These boys display the spirit and determination that was evident all week long.
