Victory and Coronation Spark Homecoming The football game on October 16, 1964, may have seemed, at first glance, like any other Jeff football game. However, certain differences could be seen if one looked closer. The stands were a little more crowded than usual, many of the female fans wore large white Chrysanthemums with red and black ribbons, and the goal posts were decorated with red and black crepe paper streamers. This game was indeed not an ordinary Jeff football game, it was the 196-It Homecoming game. The crucial half finally arrived, and all eyes were focused on the five smiling, happy queen candidates being driven around the football held by members of the J Club. The candidates, who had been elected by the student body, nervously mounted the platform, and ,loan Miller was announced the 1964- Homecoming Queen. Fred Bolyard, Student Council president, kissed the queen and presented her with a sparkling silver crown and a large bouquet of red roses. Queen ,loan's court consisted of Sara Schaible, Debby Swartz, Sari Traeger, and Marsha White. Another high point of the half was honoring the 1959 football squad. The 1964- Homecoming game came to an exciting climax when Jeff defeated Indianapolis Brebeuf 33-0. The nostalgic spectators would not soon forget the night.
