How he discovered the Nautilus room is still a mystery, but when he put his head to the keyhole, he saw and heard many interesting things. He became so excited that he decided to investigate these affairs himself. He sneaked through our halls, and from his keyhole position, he saw the people at Jeff .... x so ,QQ xx W k --6 Q-. AT WORK Our nosy liffle friend encounfered many doors, fhrough fhe keyholes of which he found us inclusfriously ai work. Classrooms, sfudy halls, fhe library, and club- rooms are a few of the places where he saw us seeking knowledge, pracficing democrafic principles, and learn- ing vocafional skills, all of which help prepare us for fhe fasks fhaf lie ahead affer we've left fhese sacred halls. The varied extracurricular activities at school, such as our organizations, teams, and recreation centers, provided an outlet for our excess energy. They also helped us to develop skills in sports and training in leadership, in addition to our having just plain fun. 1-1-1 ,Jr Y I l 3' Pdyr' S Curfain Calf. MAKING FRIENDS This inquisitive little character also did some peeking outside the classrooms and after school and discovered us with our friends. We spent many enjoyable hours with our pals, our teachers, and our dates, and we shall always carry fond memories of these acquaintances for they helped round out the busy, happy years spent at Jett. rt Surprise-l Henpecked? FACULTY Our nosy little friend then came upon JeFf's teachers and school administrators, without whom our education would not have been possible. .lett's teaching statt is made up of experi- enced and well educated people who show great interest in the students and in their classes. Through the keyhole, you will now meet those who have given us a background for the future- our teachers. .L-I-1-. I-J! Democracy in action. I'1l!!1,' .H Junior Election . Unlike the outcome of the senior election this year, the junior boy candidates won our election. On the girls' ticket, Evaline Baldwin ran for the oFfice of president, Norma Hall for vice president, and Mary Ann Hostetter for secretary-treasurer. We carried on our election much in the same manner as the seniors, using voting machines and giving campaign speeches, however, ours was on a much smaller scale. The Junior Class ofticers were Bill Niemantsver- driet, president, Dick Quealy, vice president, and Jack King, secretary-treasurer. Math Department To take his place in our modern world, a well- educated person needs a solid mathematical background. Careers in science, engineering, and industry all require a good knowledge of math, and these fields promise to become even more important in the future. Taxes, financial and business problems, and just everyday living show us how often we need and use math. Even trying to stretch an allow- ance these days requires a good mathematician. Coach Marion Crawley developed a squad that whipped five conference foes before bowing to Rich- mond in the NCC finale, and finished the season with a commendable record of 7 won, 2 lost, and a single tie. The Bronchos started out in convincing style, over- powering Hammond 20-7 and Frankfort 25-0, before traveling to Kokomo for a high-scoring fracas which the Jeffmen dominated 38-27. After dropping a home engagement to a very capable Cathedral eleven 20-6, the Bronchos rolled over New Castle, Muncie, and Logansport, to set them- selves up as definite conference title contenders, with undefeated Richmond as the big remaining obstacle. The Bronchos sharpened up on Crawfordsville 34-O, and then journeyed to Richmond for that never-to-be- forgotten title encounter. Richmond, first-ranked team in the state, and undefeated in two seasons, flashed to two touchdowns in the opening quarter, but the Bronchos steadied and battled them on even terms the rest of the way, losing 32-20. The traditional season wind-up with West Side was somewhat anticlimoctic, coming only four days after the Richmond tussle, and the fired-up Red Devils traded touchdowns to account for Jeff's lone tie. Don Boveri and Jim McClatchie were co-captains of this year's team. McClatchie was voted the outstanding player by his teammates. The team was hurt by graduation losses from last year's semi-final champs, with only Joe Heath and Bob Kaser returning as regulars, and Coach Marion Crawley was forced to iuggle the line-up during the early part of the season. Nearing tourney time, however, the team ielled into a consistently strong unit. The Bronchos finished the season with a 3-6 North Central Conference record and a 10-IO over-all season record. ln the annual Holiday Tournament, which visit- ing Evansville Central won, Jeff split two games, losing to Crispus Attucks and winning over Seymour. After opening the season with three straight wins, the cagers ran into trouble with some of the state's toughest teams, losing to Kokomo, Evansville Central, and South Bend Central while getting by a good Anderson team. After the Holiday meet, the squad couldn't seem to click, losing four NCC games before dumping Logansport. During this time, however, the Bronchos decisively convinced West Side 53-32. After a painful loss to Marion, the team perked up, and when the starting combination of Heath, Clark, Kaser, Becker, and Taylor solidified, the Bronchos be- came a power to reckon with. They threw a scare into Richmond by scrapping all the way and holding the powerful Red Devils to a 57-54 victory in the Confer- ence wind-up. In the Sectional, the Bronchos won their tenth con- secutive trip to the Regionals, the longest string of sectional victories in the state. The next week Jeff fans were treated to a hair-raising fracas as the Bronchos and Frankfort's Hot Dogs staged a double-overtime affair, with Frankfort finally breaking the Jeff tourna- ment string with a 58-56 victory. -sl iii- 'insiwi--s Z L f l lor, Hal Traviolia. This year, with a full crew of returning letter- men supplying the power, the team went after its third straight conference crown. With almost a full team returning to action, the Bronchos set out to duplicate their 17-4 season record of last year. The loss of Jim Sprankle and Kenny Kelly, two outstanding performers who signed pro contracts, was largely offset by a capable crew of moundsmen in Joe Heath, Ralph Maple, Mike Costello, and Jerry Neal, and experienced men in nearly every other position.
