OUR SCHOOL JEFF As early as 1825 the people of Lafayette lnduana realuzed the need for further educatnonal facllltles and organuzed the Hrst school board of thus community The men chosen were John Pur due who later gave large sums of money to establush Purdue Umversuty Wnlllam P Heath Israel Spencer Jacob Casad and After bulldung several grade schools to meet the demand a new hugh school was bullt at the corner of Snxth and Columbna Streets Due to the mcrease In enrollment the old bunldmg became unadequate and a new one was constructed nn 1913 on the present sute Jeff expanded an 1926 by bunldung one of the largest gymnasuums In Induana seating 4 500 In 1949 Jeff added the Junuor Hugh School to meet uncreased enrollments I 1 X i - l s I I I I l H Q A . .
