The purpose of the Girls' Athletic Association is to improve the interest in athletic activities. to develop and improve skills in the various activities through partcipation, to set high standards of sportsmanship and to enjoy associations and friendships through play. The G.A.A. at Jefferson High School was first organized in 1941. The local organi- zation became a member of the State G.A.A. in 1947, and is a member this year. There are seventy members in G.A.A. at Jefferson. Any girl who participates in a G.A.A. activity may become a member. Officers are: Marilyn White, president, first semester: Joanne Carney, president. second semester. Jean Klinker, secretary-treasurer, both semesters. Miss Mary Mather is sponsor of the organization. Awards are made to girls who have the required number of points: class numerals for 150 points, a J letter for 250 points, and if a girl receives 350 points, she earns a state award. Points are accumulated for activities throughout the four years of high school. Among the organized activities offered by the G.A.A. this year are: basketball, bad- minton, bowling, tumbling, archery, and softball. Each sport activity is in charge of sports heads who are elected by members. Business meetings are held once a month. Officers are elected in September. At an Honor Dinner in the spring, which climaxes the year's activities, Athletic Awards are made. First semester president, Joan Carter: vice-president, Marilyn White, secretary-treasurer, Jean Klinker. Left to right: Mr. Harry Murphy, Francis Boor, George Pfrommer. BOARD OF EDUCATION Mr. George Pfrommer, treasurer of the city school board, has been a member for the past live years. Mr. Francis Boor, president, has been with the school board six years, and Mr. Murphy, secretary, is completing his First year. During this time, with the assist- ance of the other school officials, many of their desires and plans for better schools have been fulfilled. The parents and students of jeff are deeply indebted to these men for their careful direction which contributes so much to the success of the school. D.
