The Bronx Hi-Y emphasizes the Christian Purpose of the Club, which is ATO create, maintain, and extend throughout the school and community, high standards of Christian character. The platform is: Clean speech, clean sports, clean scholarship, and clean living. It co-operates with the Y.M.C.A. activities and it sponsored the miniature jet auto races at the local Y.M.C.A. and awarded the prizes. It assisted in school activities with a concessions stand and with various school programs. The meetings included: speakers, moving pictures, parties, group discussions, and refreshments. The officers were as follows: Glen Mitchell, presidentg Bill Kiser, vice-presidentg Jack Cripe, secretary: Dick Bennett, treasurer. The club is sponsored by George E. Carroll and Gerald Hitchings. A Christmas Party was held for the members and their dates, and on February 14, the annual Queen of Hearts Dance was held. The Jeff Hi-Y also sponsors religious convo- cations and mixers, has charge of concessions at football games, and contributes to the Community Fund, Infantile Paralysis, Red Cross, and the World Service organization of the Y.M.C.A. The annual Mothers' and Sons' Banquet was held on May 6. This organization has promoted the appearance of the school by decorating the entrances on holidays and by contributing to a fund for the improvement of the lawns. l'n:.- llll

SUNSHINE SOCIETY The Sunshine Society, organized in 1916, is the oldest girls' organization in Jefferson High School. The society is under the direction of Miss Slayback and membership is open to any high school girl. 1948 was one of the most important of all the society's history. The state convention was held here and over 2,000 girls from all over the state attended. Patsy Smith was president for the entire year and she was ably assisted by Beverly Suffridge as treasurer, Frances Flack as secretary, and Maxine Huegel as vice-president. Row 1, Ieit to right: P.
