For the First Time in 32 Years I Heights Mule closes in on No. 14, Billy Surit. s the Mustang quarterback mates a futile attempt 3r a touchdown in the waning moments. Alamo Stadium, Oct. 23: A bad snap In the fourth quarter, downed in the Jeff end zone for 2 points, proved to be the margin of victory for the Alamo Heights Mules in Jeff ' s second district game. This 2-0 victory was the first setback handed the Mus- tangs by the Mules in 17 clashes. This game was strictly a defensive battle, but the Mustang miscue and the 2 decisive points were just too much for the Hosses to overcome. Defensive standouts were Larry Swanson, Joe Nobis, and Pat O ' Connell. Tom Shields, Howard Smith, and Jimmy Sherrod were the offensive workhorses In the Mus- tang ' s futile attempt to score a victory. Hello, Dolly! Carolyn MacKenney and the other four majorettes do the buck and wrno to the hit tune. 75

Sidelined by a leg broken in the Alamo Heights game, Ronnie Jarozewsiti casts spirited glances toward the playing field as the Mustangs break Lee. Northeast Stadium, Oct. 30: Aided by 48-degree weather, a capacity crowd, and a week of high spirit, the Mighty Mustangs inflicted the worst defeat Lee has experienced in five years. Turning the tables on last year ' s 23-0 loss to the Vols, the Mustangs rallied after a scoreless first period and hung up their first 6 pointer of the night on a 70-yard pass play from Dennis Niemeyer to Joe Nobis. Neimeyer continued his exhibition on aerial wizardry when, a few min- utes later, he completed a 40-yard toss to wing- back Jimmy Sherrod. Sherrod successfully caught the pass, but fumbled the ball, and as it rolled into the end zone, fell on it racking up his first TD of the night. Seconds before the end of the first half, Joe Nobis intercepted a screen pass and galloped into the end zone, giving Jeff a 21-0 lead at the half. 76
