A major in mathematics, requiring three or four years, prepares our graduates for college work in preparation for careers in engineering, teaching, architecture, etc. Jeffersonls eleven mathematics instructors are proud of the records made by its umathl' majors. Many of those pictured above in their first struggle with algebra will go on to find the field of higher mathematics fascinating and rewarding, not only in their professions but in the solutions of daily problems. While they receive this training, they also give service to their fellow students and the school. They prepare the books for the shelves and rebind the damaged ones. They serve as assistants at the desk by checking roll, and checking the incoming and outgoing library books. Many times these library assistants work for merits for either the Lassos or Girls' Cadet Corps. Binding books and helping with the many other things that take place behind the scenes in our library is their job. a .

The Jefferson band is composed of many different sections: the Mustang concert and marching band. the intermediate or Pony band, and the Colt band or beginning band. The Band Parents' Association. organized to help the band members. owns and provides all instruments. Our band is present at all football games and pep rallies. It represents Jefferson in parades, neighboring communities, Interscholastic League marching, concert con- tests, church performances, and civic club programs. In 1953 the Mustang Band took an inspiring trip to Washington, D. C.. from which they gained much informa- tion. For the past five years they have brought home the trophy for the best marching band in the Buccaneer Days celebration. Corpus Christi. - Our UB band is finding that hard work brings good results.
