Here Mr. Rogers, the heloved host for a quarter of a century. addresses his faculty and other friends for tho last time. I I I I Twenty-five years shows a faculty richer in experience and tradition and showing a professional attitude not even expected in l932. livery jefferson faculty member lnelopgs to the San An- tonio Teachers' Council. Percentage of membership in other professional organ- izations is well almoxe average. lt is not their professional attitude nor their experience nor their training that characterizes the faculty of 556 to the Jefferson student. It is their interest and their attitude of 'Lgive and take, and their friendliness to the student that is accepted as a matter of course by the student hody and taken note of by patrons and visitors. With very few ex- ceptions the teacheris day runs into far more hours than are known. Club meet- ings, field trips. connnittee work, decor- ating for social activities, sponsorship of out of town trips. Saturdays and holi- days spent on club projects: all these. in addition to hours of lesson plans and paper grading. make us know that our 756 faculty members are, indeed, dedi- cated to their profession. i?5

MR. THOMAS B. PORTWOOD Superintendent Wfhen Thomas Jefferson High School opened its doors in January, 1932. Mr. Thomas B. Portwood, then assistant superintendent of schools. saw a dream ma- terialize. Agreement on the site chosen for his udream schoolj' had not been unani- mous among San Antonio school educators and patrons. This Silver Anniversary year sees Superintendent Portwoodls courage and fore- sight fully justified. jefferson has earned a place among the nation's high schools for its high academic rating and for the beauty of its campus. It has attracted a thriving community of business houses and of attractive homes. This beautiful school of ours. then. is another tribute to the leadership and to the integrity of thought and af-tion always shown by Nlr. Thomas B. Portwood. who gave impetus to the dream of Thomas Jefferson High School. I2
