FORE WORD In the overwhelming rush of activi- ties, the seniors somehow find time for a few serious thoughts of the future. For eighty-five per cent of the graduates, the future means college. This year the underclassmen, too, have been constant- ly reminded of college preparation since Thomas Jefferson has become San An- tonio's only purely academic high school. The necessary stepping-up of standards which accompanied this change has not always been entirely enjoyable, but students will now leave Jefferson bet- ter prepared for college, for business, or for life. The Monticello also has discarded some old ideas, adding new ones. For the first time the seniors have been photographed in caps and gowns, a cus- tom frankly borrowed from colleges. College choices have been listed with the other senior information. The suc- cess of this staff is measured by the vividness and the individuality with which we interpret this year of school life.
