J ,, Through twenty years of life at Iefferson High School, one person has always ranked first in making our school what it is today-a place Where good fellowship and student cooperation prevail. His ready smile, friendly en- couragement, good humor, and ability to understand every stude-nt's problem have made him a person never to be forgotten. He is the embodiment of the Spirit of gleffersong the ever present force behind each phase of school life. The students of Thomas lefferson are very proud to have Mr. T. Mr. Thomas B. Portwood Superintendent San Antonio Schools Mr. Thomas B. Portwood, Superintendent of Public Schools, is the rnan most responsible for San An- tonio's splendid school system. lefferson students owe him a special debt of gratitude, for it was his vision that created this magnificent building, the colorful gardens, and tall, green trees which enhance the beauty of San Antonio and the life of each student. He strives always for the best, he has the foresight and determination necessary to be an efficient and capable Superintendent of Schools. The citizens of this city are quite fortunate to have a man such as Mr. Portwood at the head of the Public Schools. Mr. Oscar E. Miller Assistant Superintendent San Antonio High Schools A name that many students recognize immediately is that of Mr. Gscar E. Miller- the friendly, always smiling man who was at one time the principal of Horace Mann lunior School. Although he has many responsibilities and little free time, he is always gracious about coming to lefferson for special occasions. Much appreciation is due this capable Assistant Superintendent of Schools in charge of secondary education, for he executes each duty with a special sense of accuracy and efficiency. Mr. Oscar Miller is an invaluable executive and a shining example for each lefferson student to follow. PAGE 17

Mrs. Payton Kennedy Dean of Girls Although she has acted as leffersorfs Dean of Girls for only a short time, Mrs. Payton Kennedy is Winning a secure place in the heart of each lefferson student. She has already proved her ability to give Wise and just counsel, to be fair, and to appreciate the difficulties confronting a student. Each girl enters her office With the knowledge that problems will soon be erased and serenity restored. Her fine beginning in this difficult work assures us that the future will bring added progress, and that Mrs. Kennedy Will continue to deserve the admiration of each lefferson student. PAGE 19 Mr. Raymond W. Arnold Vice Principal and Dean of Boys lefferson's Vice-Principal is admired by everyone with Whom he comes in contact, but it is the boy at lefferson who realizes early in his high school career that this man is an authority on boys and their many problemsf One interview with this Wise counselor proves that he is impartial in hearing facts and fair in making decisionsi His is the difficult job of finding a practical solution to the problem Which beset boys.
