f 1 f + f In the shadow of a year and a half of war our great Nation holds a deeper meaning for us than ever before. No longer complacent, we are now fully aware of our Country's greatness. We now know the sacred privilege of being Ameri- cans, of serving America, of working for America, of fighting for America, of being able to say reverently, Thank God that we live-i1'1A1'nefj.CQ. f af f + at f f ff + f f +1 1 ff 1 f 1 + f f f f Here in Thomas Iefferson High School our school life is far richer now that we have learned the luxury of serving others by doing without the old, unimportant things on which we once placed so high a value. Our school life is more colorful now that each of us is playing such a tremendous role in bringing ultimate Victory to our great land. This year each call for service has brought an eager response from our students and our teachers. Guided by our wise and patriotic principal, everyone of us has gone all out for Victory, there has been no shortage in our fight- ing spirit. In each Iefferson heart there has been this one thought, this one determination: WE MUST WIN TI-IIS WAR. f f f f f 1 ff f f The many drives-War Bonds, War Stamps, hospital equipment, victrola records, keys, razor blades, coathangers, knives, scrap metal, scrap wool, scrap paper, books, Victory gardens, stamps, and a multitude of others-we have plunged into with clear, unflinching eyes, knowing that Victory will not wait for the nation that is late. We have felt in our hearts the deep thrill of a patriotism as old as the Declaration of Independ- ence, as new as rationing. ffff f f f f f f f f f f f- f 1 f And so, fellow students of Iefferson, in your Monticello of IQ43 your Annual Staff has tried to show you 'llefferson at War. We have tried to give you an authentic picture of you yourselves in step with Uncle Sam, proudly playing your part in this war. We hail your efforts, and just as proudly we give you your l943 MONTICELLO, trusting that this wartime edition may ever be one of your most treasured possessions. f f f f f f
