How few, however, know that it is to Thomas lefferson of Virginia that we owe our thanks for the bill proclaiming absolute religious freedom for every citizenl lt was this Ieffersonian principle of religious freedom that was introduced into the Con- stitution of the United States as the First Amend- ment. Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom. one wand Thomas lefferson visits Thomas lefferson High School. Yes, in spirit, the great Virginian, who believed his plan for general education for all the people to be the corner-stone of democracy itself, visits the ultra-modern high school named in his honor. lust as his plan was too far ahead of the people of his time, in like manner far beyond his dreams are the curricular and' ex- tra-curricular activities of our school. We, your Monticello staff, can see, however, a Vivid contrast between our activities and his own life. It is this contrast between Thomas Jefferson as a student and the students of Thomas leff- erson High School upon which We have built our theme, as shown in our division pages. We trust you will enjoy your book as I'I11lCh as we have enjoyed preparing it for you.
