acufltu, Scientists in the making in Mr. May's chemistry class busily perform an interesting experiment. Nine teachers in twenty- nine classes teach the students many useful things. They learn the relation of science to daily life and the de- pendence of modern progress upon science. The laws of health, an understanding of the relations of plants and animals to the human race-all these are learned also. Students in Mrs. Carvajal's Spanish class learn to do by doing. Spanish, French, and German -these three form the modern language work in Iefferson. In each one students are trained to speak the language, to understand it when they hear it spoken, and to appreciate the people of the land in which the language is spoken. Ten art classes in Iefterson, taught by two members of the faculty, include commercial art, pottery, and modeling, still life and lite drawing, craft, costuming, design, and interior decorating. Many contests are entered and Won by the interested students in these classes.

Future dramatic stars rehearse seriously under Miss Orrell's kind guidance. The speech department offers debate, dra- matics, play production, stage-craft, and public speaking. Students acquire a knowledge of argumentation and practice in presenting suitable arguments, They learn poise, co- operation, and the ability to interpret character effectively. Begun in l937, the work in radio-dramatics is new in our school, yet already seventy-tive pupils are enjoying the work. The most interesting project was Take-Over Day at K.T.S.A.
