Spanish Iris and fonquils MOTTO 1.0015 up! and not down: Out! and not in: Fitlflltllfllf and not buclfnrarzl. ln 1930 the Sophomore Class of Main Avenue High School, headed by Joseph Plaza, entered into school activities with the ability and spirit that was to char- acterize them through their high school history. They presented a play called Renting jimmy in the school auditorium. Realizing that the class would be disrupted by the change of schools in the second half of l93I-32, the Juniors did not completely organize until the gpening of the new term at Thomas Jefferson. Thene they began work in earnest under their able president, Walter Lehr. ln May, inspired by the beauty of their surroundings, they transformed the business-like gym into a fairy land of subdued lights and pastel-colored streamers for the Junior-Senior Prom--an event to be remembered! Under the direction of the preceding year's president, reelected to' head the class during its last year, the work of the Seniors was exemplified by its efficient, short meetings. Fall socials came in the guise of a surprise -fl-lalloween party, with its usual fortune telling and apples, and a Christmas dance in the gymnasium. Some of the important decisions of the class were: the election of Virginia Lehman and Claude Graves as Dulce and Duchess to represent Jefferson at the Brack- enridge Senior Carnival, the designing of a ring, the appointment of a group to function as a condolence and sympathy committee for the bereaved or ill members of the class, and the wearing of caps and gowns for graduation. Spring activities included the presentation of a vaude- ville, the Senior Frolic, the selection of the Hall of Fame, a Senior play, a picnic, and, last, but not least, the observance of Class Day, which was featured by an assembly, a luncheon. and a theater party. The Seniors of jefferson, the Technological and Vocational School, and Brackenridge attended the Baccalaureate Service on May 28th in the Municipal Auditorium. The High School career of the Class of l933 closed when Walter Lehr bade us goodbye from the Municipal Auditorium stage at the close of the Commencement Exercises on May 3l, 1933. ROBERTA PATTERSON
