Eagle Nine Have Successful Year Fans again saw the power of the Mighty Eagles as before in the fall. But now the season is spring and the sport: baseball. Spectators saw the key pitching of Tom Heitz and Tom Wedl, and the expert fielding of Zimmv scoop up the first five victories. Then after a mid-season slump they picked up their winning ways and advanced to the tournaments. Thev worked their way to sectionals by defeating Fort Atkinson and Whitewater in sub-regionals and Lake Mills in the regionals. Their win over Wisconsin Heights qualified them to meet Madison East and a chance at the state title. MVP this year was Tom Stauss, who was chosen for All-Conference First Team for his outfielding. Heitz and Zimmerman received honorable mention for shortstop and third baseman, respectively. Heitz was also voted captain of the team. With nine juniors and two sophomores returning next year, Coach Smith and his team will be battling closer to the place of Badger Conference Championship. Good Year For Spring Sports Two major spring sports for boys arc golf and tennis. Both teams had a good spring season. The golf team was extremely successful with a dual meet record of 15 wins and 1 loss. Their season wins were 41 as opposed to only 10 losses. The golfers took first place at both of the eight-team invitationals. The most valuable golfer was Captain Dan Lev. This is the second year he has received this honor and the third vear that he has been voted captain bv his teammates. Dan lettered in golf for all four years of his high school career. He had the best shooting average since 19e 5. with a 38.7. Over the past two years he had 10 wins. 1 loss, and 2 ties in Badger Conference plav. Coach Rogers proclaimed Dan the R.P. of the golf team. The tennis team finished the season with 4 wins and 3 losses in conference play. I he overall record was 10-9. Ron Follensbee, chosen as captain, was also Most Valuable Player. Ron s individual record was 2 wins-5 losses. When teamed with Jeff Haas, another senior, the record improved to 5 wins cmd 2 losses. Ron. Jeff, and Brian Monogue will be graduating from the team this vear. leaving the leadership role to junior Paul J. Olson. Mr. Dahle and Mr. Rogers coached these two successful teams.
