Eagle Nine Have Successful Year Fans again saw the power of the Mighty Eagles as before in the fall. But now the season is spring and the sport: baseball. Spectators saw the key pitching of Tom Heitz and Tom Wedl, and the expert fielding of Zimmv scoop up the first five victories. Then after a mid-season slump they picked up their winning ways and advanced to the tournaments. Thev worked their way to sectionals by defeating Fort Atkinson and Whitewater in sub-regionals and Lake Mills in the regionals. Their win over Wisconsin Heights qualified them to meet Madison East and a chance at the state title. MVP this year was Tom Stauss, who was chosen for All-Conference First Team for his outfielding. Heitz and Zimmerman received honorable mention for shortstop and third baseman, respectively. Heitz was also voted captain of the team. With nine juniors and two sophomores returning next year, Coach Smith and his team will be battling closer to the place of Badger Conference Championship.
