Team Wins 1st Two Tournament Games Merely ten more points could have given the Eagle Cagers a second place finish in the Badger Conference. The defeats were often close and went into as many as three overtimes. The team finished the season with an overall record of ten wins and eleven losses under the direction of Coach Leipold. The team played the entire season with enthusiasm and excitement. This spirit was kept alive through the leadership of cocaptains Tom Heitz and Joel Petty, and the impressive backcourt duo of Tom Stauss and Tom Wedl. These juniors led the team in scoring. Tom Wedl was named to the second of the All-Conference teams, while Tom Stauss received Special Mention. Senior Tom Heitz was chosen Most Valuable Player of the team. VARSITY BASKETBALL. However, they were always first in line at the bake sales. They would go days without food and get dehydrated, but with their vitamins and salt tablets they managed to survive and somehow make their weight. After matches they dined on steaks and fried potatoes. Through all this struggle the mat-men finished with the best meet record since 1960 with a 10-3 overall record and a 4-3 in conference. Four Eagles participated at the Sectionals: Dick Koch, Lee Schiferl, Dave and Steve Sonnenberg. Dick and Dave placed third, and Steve placed second which qualified him for State. The Sonnenbergs again walked off with the honors, with Dave receiving the Dan McGinnis award and Steve the Most Valuable Player award. 'Steve, where did you say you were going after the match ? Pardon me sir, but could you please move so I can see the blonde in the . 20 Wrestling
