Team Wins 1st Two Tournament Games Merely ten more points could have given the Eagle Cagers a second place finish in the Badger Conference. The defeats were often close and went into as many as three overtimes. The team finished the season with an overall record of ten wins and eleven losses under the direction of Coach Leipold. The team played the entire season with enthusiasm and excitement. This spirit was kept alive through the leadership of cocaptains Tom Heitz and Joel Petty, and the impressive backcourt duo of Tom Stauss and Tom Wedl. These juniors led the team in scoring. Tom Wedl was named to the second of the All-Conference teams, while Tom Stauss received Special Mention. Senior Tom Heitz was chosen Most Valuable Player of the team. VARSITY BASKETBALL. i Like the aquatic seal. Jessica Dempsey uses her nose to balance the ball. The girls' basketball team barely survived the season without a manager. Forgetting the towels and basketballs might seem trivial, but for the girls that gave their utmost determination and perspiration at Kettle Moraine, it proved to be one of those hardships one learns to endure. But despite the minor difficulties, the team finished with a conference record of 3 wins and 4 losses. They managed to break even overall with a 5-5 record. Coach Delany and the girls had the pleasure of practicing with Maria Lundgren, the Swedish AFS student. Maria was one of six seniors providing leadership for the three juniors and two sophomores. Ann Fellows was chosen honorary captain and Judy Hans, also a great asset to the team, was picked Most Valuable Player. They received these honors from their teammates for helping provide the knowledge and guidance that the girls needed to further improve their team.
