First Year For Girls' Volleyball The girls of Jefferson High School were offered volleyball as a new interscholastic sport this year. Forty-three girls signed up for the team. Coach Delany had the task of cutting the team to fifteen players who were capable of spiking, setting, digging, and serving the ball. She then had to teach the girls proper technique, correct positioning, and suitable plays. The young team consisted of three seniors, four juniors, six sophomores, and two freshmen. They worked hard to achieve success, but unfortunately, the efforts of the team and Coach Delany failed to produce a winning season. In fact, they succeeded in winning only one match. This was against Edgerton with a final score of 2 out of 3 games. The team elected Carol Erie as Most Valuable Player, and Jessica Dempsey was selected as Captain. VOLLEYBALL. ROW 1: A. Kramer. A. She also placed third in the first single's match at the Badger Conference Meet in Stoughton. Anne Fellows also placed at the conference meet, earning third position of the second single's match. Six other girls participated in this meet. The fifteen tennis players, thirteen of whom were rookies, practiced and developed their skills under the guidance of Coach Wilson.
