The gym was decorated with a pale moon, which cast its pastel moonbeams on the twilight scenes of a city and the country around it. A wishing well caused the gentle, soothing sounds of its descending water to fill the entire room. A spider in the midst of the ceiling had spun its majestic web and had caught a beautiful blue butterfly, which set the scene for the queen. In preparation for the highlight of the evening, the crowning of the queen, everyone participated in the Grand March. The queen was then seated on her gleaming white throne and crowned with a small, glittering rhinestone crown by King John. After the memorable moment, the king and queen waltzed together to Twilight Time. 37 FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: Tom Marshall, Rose Gaugert, Lord Ron Hake, Lady Janice Doebert, Christie Hettich, Donna Schopen, Denny Munro, Judy Gruennert, and Tom Hotter. MIDWINTER December 30 marked one of the high points of the year for the seniors. That night they sponsored their mid-winter ball, Crystal Blue Night. The gymnasium was beautifully decorated, and everyone who attended the dance enjoyed themselves. Lady Janice Doebert and her escort, Ron Hake, led the grand march. The members of their court were Donna Schopen and Denny Munro, Rosie Gaugert and Tom Marshall. The event will be long remembered by the senior class of 1960. FROM LEFT TO RIGHT: T. Marshall, J. Gross, King D. Munro, Queen J. Gruennert, J. Ulm, and D, Zahn. HOMECOMING October 15 and 16 will be remembered for a long time by Judy Gruennert and Denny Munro. These were the days during which they reigned over Jefferson's 1959 Homecoming. On Thursday we had a parade, followed by a bonfire and pep rally at the sandpit, which showed the wonderful spirit of the student body. On Friday, the big game and the dance were both well attended. The theme of the dance was Moonlight Serenade.11 The gymnasium was beautifully decorated with Spanish figurines and highlighted by a large golden moon suspended from the ceiling. The orange spotlights added to its beauty. The main point of interest at the dance was the crowning of the king and queen and the presentation of awards for posters and class floats. 40 ROW ONE: Coach Heim, P. Blayney, T. Hotter, F. Thoma, J. VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM The Jefferson Eagles, coached by Howie Katzenberg, were seen putting in long hours every night after school. The boys played with their hearts in the game as we could see by the close scores. Ken Ganser, our towering center, played a brilliant game each time and was a top scorer in the conference. As sophomores, we were finally getting adjusted to our new, strange surroundings and even took consolation prize for our float in the Homecoming parade. It is always said that one's junior year is the most exciting, and we found this to be true. Judy Gruennert, Tom Hotter, and Jim Vaughan represented our school at the Badger Boys and Girls State. Five class members were also chosen for the National Honor Society. Our prom, Lavender and Lace, was another of the highlights of our junior year. Our senior year was made exciting by our Midwinter, Crystal Blue Night, and the class play, Cheaper By the Dozen. Also we could boast of several outstanding athletes as well as scholars. Among these, Chris Hettich was awarded the D. A. R. recognition. Our biggest thrill came on June 5, I960, when to the music of Pomp and Circumstance, 72 we received our diplomas at graduation .
