M.A., Northwestern University University of Chicago 'Ht Our country and our city take pride in the accomplishments of the high school classes of 1945. We are happy that you have had the stamina and courage to complete this phase of education in the face of over- whelming difficulties. Throughout the length and breadth of our land, our youth know that education is important in the building of a strong country. They realize that the logieal test of a people's capacity for self- government is its level of education. In this rapidly changing world, we are eonstantly reminded of the duty we owe our youth in providing an education, not merely in terms of books, credits, diplomas and degrees, but an education in terms ot' preparation for, and earning of, a living. We have earnestly tried to keep pace with the times and trust that graduation will not mark the end but rather the beginning of a new endeavor that will test your ability in what we term the American way of life. DONALD LEE Dillieult problems will have to be faced and solved for many years after this war. It behooves everyone to do some serious thinking along these lines. The people who will solve our future problems are being trained in our schools today. Therefore, let ns prepare well, so that we may be ready to contribute toward the world's success and happiness. Miss Edwards provided the boys with the necessary supplies and explained the ABC's of cooking to them. Gathering our own conclusions from the aromas which issued from the kitchen the fellows' attempts at cooking have proved very successful. The Student Council should be ranked as a really necessary organization, since it represents the student body as a whole. Its members are elected by the difTerent classes at the beginning of the school year. This year George Peiehl and Donald Lloyd made a trip to Madison to get some general ideas on how to improve our Student Council. Now the council is working on gathering information to publish in a handbook which will be given to new students. When some of us recall how green we were when we first entered high school, we'rc sure this handbook will prove very useful. They have also developed a better system of conducting fire drills, which is important. This Student Council has really been the voice of the studentsf, DRAMATIC CLUB 'Ir SITTING, left to right: S. Since many of the students expressed a desire for a dramatic organization of some sort, this club was begun. Miss Rundell was the director. The members concentrated mostly on short plays. A very popular event of the carnival, a play, was given by the members of this club. Students, who were eager to express dramatic ability, found a place in this club, which proved to be great fun and very educa- tional to the members. Miss Rundell, a very capable director, taught the finer points of acting to the members. Cpage 'Twenty-eigfvt TUMBLING CLUB if l tx ROW l, Iefl fo right: J. Marsch, D. Dummer, M. Gerhardi, V. Sports, as we are beginning to see, are becoming exceptionally popular in -Iefiersoii High School. Consequently, this led to the formation of the Sports Club. This club is a joint organization of both boys and girls who are especially interested in athletics. Members of this club participated in all kinds ol sports during the time they were in this club. Students of jefferson High School are concentrating much more interest in athletics, as we can see by other clubs ol an athletic nature. ' Wage 'Thirty-one . Susan, co-editor of the paper, and her girl friend, Betsy, took over the editing of the paper, but through an error in the printing. their items were twisted up. A Southern belle, named Lucybelle, adds to the Confusion by trying to get Johnny away from Susan, and she sueeeeds in getting both johnny and his friend Spud interested in her. However, after the mix-up in the paper Lueybelle decides to go to a big high school dance with Preston Hughes, the football star. There was one good scoring chance for each team. The Cards intercepted a Jeff pass and went. via the ground, to the jeff 9, where the Eagles' defense really stopped them. The Eagle scoring chance was in the 3rd quarter: it also was via the ground and went to the Fort 7 beforecit petered out. Outstanding in the hackfield were Lloyd, Stueber, and Rubadeau, while in the line Netzer, D. Ley and Gruennert stood out. Comets 0 - Eagles 45 The jeff Eagles steam-rollered the lads from Delavan by the slight sum of 45-0. An odd feature of the game was that each jeff touchdown was made by a different player: Miller, Rubadeau, W. Ley, Auchter, Felton, Heitzler and Barrett, all hitting pay dirt. The Eagles were in full power in all de- partments with Stueber and Gruenncrt doing outstanding blocking, and Lloyd, Miller and Rubadeau doing some fine ball carrying. Redmen 7 - Eagles 6 In a hard-fought, cleanly-played game, the lads from Milton Union nicked the Eagle win streak at 12 games. The Eagle touch- down came in the 2nd quarter with a perfect pass, which traveled 42 yards, from Stueber to W. Ley, for the score. The Reds touch- down started deep in their own territory, and they drove to the Jeff 40, where the Eagles held for 3 downs. The Reds then tried a 4th down pass which made up the 5 yards they needed for lst down, and with renewed drive, Fish crashed over on a Q. B. S. for the touchdown. The deciding point was put over by Johnson, the M. U. fullback. Blueiays 6 - Eagles 28 Full of vim and vigor and what really counts --touchdowns, the Eagle horde soared over the Janesville Bluejays 28-6. Before the Blue- jays had crossed their goal-line once, the jeffs had trod on theirs four times. 'iRod Lloyd. regular right hall, for the night at left half in place of the injured 'lflhuhl' Miller, and Rub Rubadeau cleaned up on the scoring and ground gaining for the night. On Lloyd's first trip it was off tackle for 63 yards. His seeond was a pass from Stueher and his last was a neat double re- verse around end. Ruhadeau made his on a short punch through the line. The points were made hy Stueher. Ruhadeau. Schackel- mann and Barrett. Blues 0 - Eagles 26 In the feature event of the homecoming activities, the jeff Eagles powered out a 26 to 0 win over the Evansville Blues. The Jeff men scored three times in the 2nd quarter and once in the 3rd quarter, with Chula Miller and Rod Lloyd each registering twice. Chula turned in some nice ground gaining and pass receiving. Lloyd intercepted two of the Blues' passes and raced 36 and 138 yards for the last two. Stucher did the honors with some fine toe work to account lor the two extra points. Laltemen I2 - Eagles 6 ln a thriller Lake Mills scored an upset over Kjell I2-6. The inspired Lake players thun- dered 60 yards for the Hrst touchdown. The Eagles came hack strong in the 2nd half rolling up'five first downs only to lose the hall on a fumhle.
