CDUR EW GRA D PIA O On April 26, 1959, a dream was realized in the music department of the Jefferson High SchooL On that date, at the annual spring concert, a new Baby Grand piano was used for the first time. The history of this piano was a long time in the making. Three years ago, interested per- sons in Jefferson and surrounding area formed the 'Greene County Messiah Association with a definite purpose in mind. One purpose was, of course, to present Handel's Messiah each Christmas season. The second purpose was to raise money through voluntary offerings at these performances with the purchase of a grand piano for the stage as a goal. Director of the Messiah chorus for its 1956 and 1957 performances was Mrs. .T ames Keamey of Jefferson. Miss Harriett Simons directed the Chorus in 1958. 'I'he offerings col- lected began to grow into a sizeable amount toward the piano. In 1958, a generous donation by Mr. Sheldon Wood of Minneapolis, former J.H.S. graduate, augmented the fund. Thenin April of 1959, the Community Church Choir presented the Seven Last Words of Christ by DuBois and the Ministerial Association donated another welcome cash gifttoward the cause. Finally through the primary efforts of Mrs. Beryl Morden, asecond-hand Lyon8t Healy Baby Grand piano was purchased and delivered to the school. Many people in Greene County are to be thanked for their contributions toward such a lovely and useful addition to our school.
