forgotten when it was time for the Charity Ball. Rick Morain and Janice Raaz, chosen from ten qualified attendants, reigned over this glorious event as acting King and Queen. All of these major events, and many others, were given prominence in the Quill, directed this year by Cam Lyon. Scholastically, the pilgrim class of 1959 had proved themselves of great ability. Sixteen members appeared on the first semester honor roll, indicating the hard work expended by these students in academic achievement. On one spring morning in May, the school year came to a close, and the pilgrims of '59 realized it was time to leave the building of Secondary Knowledge. Some of these pilgrims would seek higher portals in the town of Advanced Educationg others would pass directly into the realm of Personal Ex- perience. For all, the gates to the road of Life stood open, and the future beckoned. CLASS FLOWER: ROSE CLASS COLOR: ROSE AND SILVER MOTTO: With the Ropes of the past we will ring the bells of the future. PILGRIMAGE OF l959 SENIORS By Floyd McCain, Ir. In the fall of 1946, thirty pilgrims entered the fabulous town of Education. The town, as they first saw it, was a vast and mysterious place, full of new ideas and strange people. Entering the building of Elementary Knowledge, they found a warm and friendly teacher, Mrs. Mabel, ready to help them in this new adventure. Here, the days and months passed rapidly, and soon it was time to begin the ftmdamentals of reading, writing, and arithmetic. 'l'hese three things, the pilgrims were told, provide the basis for advanced education, and for reaching the gates of Etemal Truth. And thus the pilgrims continued. As the years slipped quickly by, and thedusty summers passed into cheerful memories, time beckoned the pilgrims on to a new adventure in the building of Secondary Knowledge. Here, the fellow travelers were told, was a place of new freedom in Education. After two years of preparation, the pilgrims, as freshmen, were permitted to enter the most coveted part of the building---High School. At the beginning of the school year, Rhea Sabus, a new pilgrim, was chosen to be president ofthe freshman dass, with the Ram as the traditional emblem of strength and endurance, the pilgrims continued to blaze the trail of experience. The thrills of conference football games and wild cheering at close basketball games set the year's pace of excitement. Youth Center, held in the old armory building, was the highlight of social dancing, as well as a good place to relax after the game. Soon a year had passed, and the pilgrims were elevated to the rank of sophomores. Rick Morain was chosen as able leader of the class. Various musical activities were held throughout the year, the operetta Meet Arizona was an unforgettable event. For both musical and vocal students, Contest and All-State furnished much enjoyment, along with plenty of hard work. In 1957-58, the pilgrimage was headed by class president Mike Kidder, and all fellow travelers were now known as juniors. With the prom theme, Around the World in 80 Days, work was begun on the big annual event. The Junior Senior Prom, provided by the junior class was, needless to say, a big success. The sands of time shifted a year's measure, and suddenly the pilgrims became mighty seniors. For some, this was to be their last year spent in the town of Education. The events and activities passed in rapid succession, and there was little time to comprehend things of the past. In the senior class election, Cam Lyon was selected as class president. Other officers included Dave McQuillen, vice-president, Dale Cairns, treasurerg and ,Tim Day, secretary. For the senior class of '59, the last year spent in the building of Secondary Education was, indeed, a busy and exciting one. The gay festivities of Homecoming. with Pat Smith as .T .H.S.
