CLASS HISTORY In ourselves ou future he ' As eager hopeful freshmen we began to put together the ladder by whrch to reach our goal graduatron as the class of 1954 The frrst rung was the electron of our freshmen officers presrdent Douglas Feldman vrce presr dent Max Weldy secretary treasurer Jrm Beaupre hrstorran Colleen Stermle For a lrttle added enyoyment we decrded on a hayrrde and Halloween party held at Colleen Stermle s home Soon rt was trme to add our second step We presented the play A Week s Trral and had a box socral The summer flew by and soon we were sophomores We began to burld agarn when we elected our new offrcers presrdent Marty Bassett vrce presrdent DeVere Drener secretary treasurer Carol Brrky reporter Douglas Feld man We worked hard on the fourth step of our steadrly growrng ladder sweatshrrts bake sales and movres were our money makrng proyects In November we recerved our class rrngs whrch proclarmed to all that the proud possessors were gettrng nearer to therr goal At Chrrstmas trme we had a party at DeVere Drener s home These along wrth the play Hrs Name was Aunt Nellre comprrsed the frfth srxth and seventh rungs Iunrors at last and how fast our ladder was to be extended thrs year Our erghth step was the electron of of frcers They were presrdent Lavon Yoder vrce presrdent Marty Bassett secretary Carol Brrky treasurer Janell ,Nrsen sergeant at arms Carl Hrckey We sold concessrons and prcked apples that added to our growrng ladder The nrnth shrnrng and brrght rung was added rn May when we gave our first formal banquet held rn the Emprre Room at Hotel Elkhart The last step of our Iumor year but not the least by far was added when we presented our play The Inner Wrlly The completron of our ladder was rn srght, and we worked steadrly toward our goal We constructed our eleventh rung wrth the electron of offrcers for our senror year presrdent Lavon Yoder vrce presrdent Elrzabeth Shrock secretary Carol Brrky treasurer Janell Nrsen hrstorran Devere Drener reporter Colleen Stermle The twelfth step was formed wrth the sale of magazrne subscrrptrons The freshmen have loved us ever srnce the day they were rnrtrated by the beloved hands of the senrors The thrrteenth step strll vrbrates the laughter and fun whrch marked our Semor Halloween Carmval We were honored to have the Senror candrdate Elrzabeth Shrock rergn over the carnrval Trme was runnrng short and strll more steps were needed before we reached our goal The next one number fourteen was smeared a lrttle wrth grease parnt as we drsplayed our talents wrth another play a comedy called The Hrllbrlly Weddrng Then wrth pen and pencrl rn hand we set forth to draw up an annual whrch we called The Jeffersonran of 1954 Rung number frfteen sparkling wrth stardust and brrght musrc marked our second and last formal banquet grven by the class of 55 To add to our bulgrng treasury we sold sweatshrrts to the students of Jefferson Our goal was one step further the end of our four years of study work and pleasure, we took our accumulated assets and as a class made a trrp to Washrngton D C and New York Then came baccalaureate class nrght and finally our goal graduatron But as we recerved our d rplomas and stood wrth them rn hand we realrzed that although we had reached our goal the extensron of our ladders should not stop Thrs was Just the begrnnrng there would be more goals to reach as trme went by and rt would be up to us to work toward them and achreve them wrth suc cess So armed wrth the knowledge and the frrendshrp we acqurred durrng the last four years wrth confrdence rn our selves and trust rn God we the Semor Class of 1954 brd goodby to our carefree schooldays and set out to ac complrsh our arms rn lrfe ll all I.
