SENIOR CLASS HISTORY We live in the present only remember the past and anticipate the future.” This is the motto of the 1967 graduating class. Graduation is a time for last minute finishing of all undone work and preparing for college and the future. It is also a time to think in retrospect about the past. We began our Freshmen year as the uncertain greenhorns.” In our first year, we encountered a mountain of hard work, especially in Latin and Algebra, but we also found time for outside activities. The girls were inducted into Y-Teens and initiated into G.A.A. It was also time for joining the marching band, and for the boys, sports. Sometimes, these activities seemed more like work than pleasure, but we were immensely joyed to be included as part of the high school. Being part also meant being able to attend high school dances for the first time. As Sophomores, we took on heavier schedules, which for many included five subjects. The girls were especially thrilled with dissection in biology. Even with this extra work, we were able to participate in more activities. Many entered choir and boys lettering in sports were introduced into D-Club. Our Junior year and our class rings have finally ! 12 I arrived! For a few though, it was only a quick look before exchanging them with someone special. In November, we presented the play, The Mouse That Roared.” In the spring, we planned the Junior-Senior Prom— April Showers.” Although the theme was built around showers, we had a beautiful night for the prom, and it was a great success. Finally, the year we had so long awaited had arrived! We now became Seniors and took on the responsibilities of being the leaders. Setting a good example for the underclassmen was the biggest of these. One of the greatest challenges faced by the Seniors was passing a new course—economics which was included in Civics. In late spring the class presented the play, Turn Back The Clock.” Although it came at a time when we were busy getting ready for graduation, we worked very hard and it was tremendous success. As the year came to a close, the Class traveled by bus to Defiance for a class picnic. Everyone enjoyed eating fried chicken and playing baseball. On May 29, the Class of ’67 was graduated. Now it is time for the Seniors to leave Jefferson. As we leave, we take with us many wonderful memories of our years at D.H.S. PAULINE LOUISE ARMSTRONG RONALD DEAN BASINGER KATHLEEN SUE BAYMAN ANN E. The 1966 football season at Delphos Jefferson is one that will probably be remembered by most of the Jefferson fans. This season was one of Jefferson’s best in the last few years, and our football record showed much improvement over those of the few preceding years. There are several reasons that can probably be cited for this good season: good playing on the part of the team, and fine coaching on the part of the coaches. Jefferson had three new coaches this year: Mr. Paul Krotzer, head coach, Mr. Roger Gossman and Mr. Mark Downey, assistants. In the 1966-1967 basketball season, the team acquired a record of four wins and eleven loses. The team defeated two main arch-rivals which are Elida and Spencerville, but they were unable to de¬ feat Perry, the biggest rivalry. The defeat suffered from the Gomer game was the heart-breaker this year, as Gomer defeated the team 66-65. The Wildcats lost to the high-spirited team of Pan- dora-Gilboa in the first tournament game. Our team had a well-balanced scoring attack, but they just could not pull through while they were down. With several underclassmen returning next year, the basketball season of 1967- 1968 should be a very thrilling one. foKf If ) kill . The primary goal of this organization is to develope agricultural leadership, citizenship, and co-operation. The method for achieving this goal can best be explained in the motto: Learning to Do; Doing to Learn; Earning to Live; Living to Serve.” There were many achievements of which the F. F. A. can be proud this past year. These include participation in the Speaking Contest, Parliamentary Procedure Contest and the State Livestock Judging Contest; the Chicken Barbeque, the Pancake and Sausage Supper and the annual Parent and Son Banquet, in which the boys honored their parents. Another proud event was the raising of Kenneth Hoersten and Mike Pohlman to the rank of State Farmer. SERVICE PAGE i y [ Several students volunteer a part of their study time to help the school. Morale at Jefferson, this year, has been high. Part of the reason is due to the high morale of the D-Club members. The activities consisted of selling ads for athletic programs, taking care of the pop concessions for home basketball games, buying flowers for the mothers on Mom’s Night, and sponsoring the Teachers vs. Booster’s Athletic Basketball game which was a big success. Starting with the freshmen’s initiation, many girls could be seen with painted faces, baggy pants and ratted hair. Later on, the members were busy earning points towards their letters by playing volleyball, basketball, and baseball intramurals. They also earned points by selling popcorn at the basketball games and by sell¬ ing name tags. The highest event of the year was the Athletic Banquet, where all the DHS athletes were honored. This year was closed by a combined Y-Teen-G.A.A. picnic. G.A.A. JUNIOR CLASS PLAY On the night of March 31, 1967, the Juniors proudly presented their class play People Are Funny.” Under the direction of Mr. Walter Arnette and student directors Kay Ladd and Dave Long, the play was a great success. Art Linkletter, host of the television program People Are Funny” decided to challenge a certain, painfully shy young man, Roscoe Higgenbottam, to try to get a date with a certain girl, Betty Vernon, whom he had never seen before and introduce himself as Mr. X. If he suc¬ ceeded he would win a brand new Dodge convertible. He accepted the challenge, hoping that the girl wouldn’t be too pretty, for pretty girls made him stutter. Little did he know that Art Linkletter had sent Miss Vernon unusual gifts, such as a collapsible chair, a temperamental donkey and a jack-in-the-box which was mistaken for a bomb, and signed them Mr. X. Besides that, Mr. Vernon was known for having the meanest temper in town. When Roscoe introduced himself as Mr. X, Betty liked him, but he was violently disliked by Mr. Vernon for disrupting his household and was immediately thrown out. But Roscoe did not give up! Betty’s younger sister, Millie, decided to help him because she despised Stan Rockwell, her dad’s idea of a perfect man for Betty. When Roscoe was acci¬ dentally discovered in the house by Mr. Vernon and Stan Rockwell, Roscoe recognized Stan as the crook who had swindled his mother with phony stocks. Stan was taken to police headquarters and Roscoe and Betty appeared on Art Linkletter’s program to win the convertible for their honeymoon. STUDENT DIRECTORS —Lejt to Right —Kay Ladd, Dave Long. This year’s Senior Class Play, Turn Back the Clock,’’ was presented on May 5. The comedy in three acts was written by Marrijane and Joseph Hayes. In a very brief prolog, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hill are waiting up for their children, worried and concerned. Mr. Hill, a bank president and trustee of his church, is growing angry, harping on the so-called irresponsibilities of this younger generation. He is reminded of some of his own youthful ambitions and foibles, and the clock is turned back. We then meet Mr. and Mrs. Hill as high school Seniors in the year 1928. The play proper is a gleeful glimpse into those oh-so-dead days in which parents and children be¬ haved in almost exactly the same way that they behave today. We see the funny courtship of Mr. Hill (then plain Charlie Hill) and Mrs. Hill (in those days Evie Palmer) in the age of the Charleston, the yellow slicker raincoat, the raccoon overcoat, ukuleles and jazz, and painted jalopies. Here was a play with laughs, with charm—with that all important difference! SENIOR CLASS PLAY Mr. Connor, Director; Jeff Willeke, and Beverly Berry, Student Directors; Ann Bendele, Business Manager.
