Concert Band HOh, we're the band from D.H.S. you hear so much about . . . and no wonder! We practiced hard those first weeks of school, preparing our shows for the Friday night ballgames. As a re- ward, the band took a trip to Columbus and watched the Ohio State Buckeyes defeat the Iowa K'Hawkeyes. No sooner had football season ended than we were practicing concert band and ensemble music. Our required contest numbers this year were t'Gloriole and Metropolis The band played The Barber of Seville and Come. Sweet Death as their selected numbers. They also presented a Christmas program and a Spring concert. Ten groups went to the district ensemble con- test. They were: a clarinet quartetg a woodwind quintetg a French horn quartet: a brass sextetg three trumpet soloists: a saxophone quartetg a drum ensemble and a bassoon soloist. They all did very well and made Jefferson proud of them, Four of our members were given the privilege of playing in the band and the orchestra at the district Music Festival. The band page would be incomplete without mentioning our dance band which furnishes the music for us at our post-ballgame dances and the intermediate band which plays at our class plays. Both contribute great services to their school and deserve much credit. Speaking of credit. who deserves it more than our director Mr. Zoll and the members of the Band Mothers? We certainly appreciate their help and leadership. 1 -f.ffC fiDQ?3 96139 A Capella Choir Firsl Row-l'x'nIliiai Straw-r. lliane Sll'ZiXlI'.Al1l' nine lllllSl'lllHll'LIl'I'. l.lIl!l2i 'l'n-rim. Activities of the year consisted of a Roller Skating Party, a trip to Bowling Green for Sci- ence Day, and the many group projects. The club, affiliated with Science Clubs of Amer- ica, worked on a project for Infantile Paralysis. This year for the first time our Science Club adopted a song and colors. The song is entitled When Science Club Is Meeting and is sung to the tune of When Irish Eyes Are Smiling. The colors are red and gray. T Y-Teens The Y-Teens, under the capable direction of Miss Friedrick, began the school year with their traditional candle light initiation. The girls at once started on plans for the main social event of the year, the annual Y-Teen Dance which was held in December. Beau- tifully tinted stars, couples dancing on clouds, and a stairway reach- ing to the sky were the decorations for this dance. The theme for this gala affair was, Stairway to the Stars. Other activities were a skating party and a Mother-Daughter Banquet. After suffering several key injuries in pre-season practice, Jeff dropped the season opener with Columbus Grove 21 to 20 in the last eight seconds. Injuries continued to plague the Wildcats and as a result the first team played only one quarter together all sea- son. However, with tight, and able substitutes coming on, the team continued to develop under Head Coach Paul Krotzer and his assistants Kenneth Woodring and Vernon Hull.
