This building will be a great asset for the oncoming classes inasmuch as they will be able to hold their athletics, dances, plays, and programs in this new and modern gym. Although we had hoped to be the first class to use it, we had to be content with merely watching construction of the building. As a result of this change, all our major activities had to be scheduled in new and borrowed surroundings. In spite of the re-arranging of our routine, we seniors feel that we had a splendid year-a year of scholastic achievements, athletic honors, social activities, and lasting friendships. In this book we wish to record these friends and these accomplishments. 9-15 16-37 38-57 58-70 71-93 5 -h . vhs! 3 -n E W f ,lkhwii 3 iyw 5' ,L f :F ,b 5 Nfiws- S Q Qf Qm. Sept. Oct. Oct. Oct. Nov. Lilac Senior Class History On September 2, 1947, the class of Sl stepped into the halls of Jeffer- son as freshmen to begin our High School careers. The class officers were: Vice President, Lazaro Vasquez, Secretary, Nelson Sandersg Treasurer, Bob Knapp, Sgt.-at-arms, Robert McDonald. The majority of the girls joined the G. A. A. and Y-Teens organizations. Several girls were honored by being chosen to work in the library. Ramon Vasquez was honored by receiving his first football letter. Several boys earned their baseball letters. As the next September rolled around we found ourselves anxious and happy to take our seats along with the upper two classes. This year we elected as officers: President, Frank Sheeterg Vice Presidnt, Norman Fairg Secretary, Arlene Schramg Treasurer, Kenneth Metzgerg Sgt.-at-arms, La- zaro Vasquez. Six of the boys were initiated into the D Club. We studied earnestly and were promoted to sophisticated Juniors. After three months vacation, we were more than ready to resume our studies. One of the first tasks the Juniors undertook was the Re-Echo, which reported the news to the High School. Our first class play, Parents Are Like That, was a hilarious comedy and was very well presented. As a theme for the Prom, we chose the Gay Ninetiesf' The murals cleverly portrayed life in this era. Proof of the fact that we were in school for some hard study was shown when five members of our class were elected to the National Honor Society. The class offi- cers were: President, Neil Jettinghoffg Vice President, Bob McDonaldg Secretary, Ed Lin- demang Treasurer, Jack Swickg Sgt.-at-arms, . Bill Wills. h d H I Enterinf our fourt an na year we . .. . ,,,,, were immediately rushed with activities. The Bob Baxter Delphi Staff was appointed, and work was sf started in earnest. One of the high points of pgs? .3 the fall was the Y-Teen Dance which we all , Eye enjoyed. May 18 brought about the comedy i ' N 1 S presentation of January Thaw , the class play. I if The Seniors were graciously entertained by the p Juniors on April 27 by a banquet and dance. Senior Day brought the recognition and reward sX..i 1 N for the long hours and hard work we had done f J in Delphos High School. With the coming of I 1 N A Baccalaureate and Commencement, we closed 2 . our books and bid farewell to Delphos High School. 18 l Eleanor Briggs Betty Butler Suzanne DeWeese William Fairfax Edna Buettner Patricia Carmean Norman Fair John Feathers 'K-nf alan! Tonight is the time to make my escape. In the distance I hear a faint sound. As it approaches I can see the form of a helicopter and guiding the machine is one of my former classmates. Lula Mullen, This is the first time in 10 years that I have either seen or expected an escape from my lonely dungeon. I rushed to the top of the stairs. climbed to the roof, and waved my arms with great excitement. The little ladder was let down and I immediately climbed into the helicopter. To my surprise Patty Carmean and Margaret Hilvers were sitting beside Lula. I asked them where they were going to take me and they said to visit my classmates of '51 in Delphos, Ohio, U. S. A. As We neared the helicopter station. which was lo- cated on the roof of Bob MacDonald's famous Italian restaauarant. Their special guests were Ethel Mox, Gary Malin, and Bob Knapp who were going to test their Z- Bomb. I descended from the global apparatus and cautiously made my way to the edge of the roof. They sold programs at the home football and basketball games to help buy a scoreboard for the stadium. One of the high points of the football season was the team's trip to Columbus where they saw the Ohio State-Wisconsin game. However, the most important event of the year was the home-coming. The student body chose Ethel Mox as queen of 1950 and Pat Carmean and Anna Mae Wills as her attendants. The home-coming was a great success with victory over Elida. The officers were: President, Robert MacDonald, Vice President, Charles Violet, Secretary, Nelson Sandersg Treasurer, Lee Himmeger, Sgt.-at-Arms, Kenny Shaffer. 43 lylli' ' dunaatw' 'n The Girls' Athletic Association, which was organized seventeen years ago has grown steadily ever since. As in past years, they started the year with an unusual and hilarious initiation. The new members chose their big sisters at this time. The members sold refreshments to spectators at football and basketball games. Part of this money was donated to the school for the intercommuni- cation system. Because of the lack of proper facilities, all the school games were played at the Youth Center. In this way they were able to win points for their letters. On April 6 the Athletic Banquet was held to honor all the boys who participated in the sports program throughout the year. During the eve- ning, honors were awarded to those who had earned them.
