'7!w Seadnn an Wendy Ea The Broncos of Jefferson came through with flying colors this season in basketball, We were going strong until we got into the tournament. Here is a summary of the season's play. We got off to a good start, There were two non-league games which we took without any trouble. Randolph was our first real victory, but it was a hard game all the way and wc had only five points to the good. Then we went on and met the tough Phillipsburg five. They were last year's county champions. We proved that they could be beaten when we won 35 to 34. This was one of the most thrilling games of the year. The house was packed. From then on till we came to Germantown we took them as they came, forcing Kiser, Farmersville, and Dixie down to defeat. Then Germantown came to tackle us on our own floor, and they set us back for our first de- feat. The score for this game was 47 to 43. This was our only league defeat during the sea- son. Then came Centerville, Brookville, West Carrollton, Madison, and Wayne, all victories. Butler was our next game. This was the game that decided the league championship. Both teams played a good game. When it was all over our boys had just one more point. We were champions. lt was the first time that we had ever taken such an honor. This ended our season's play with 9 wins and l loss. When the tournament started we played Phillipsburg in the first game. This was a close game and the Bolts took us by three points. This put us in the consolation bracket. Our next game was with Brookville. We took them without much trouble. Then came Center- ville. This game was ours and we won by one point. We were trying for third place but were edged out by Randolph, This game was lost by one point. The Junior High also came through with a very good year. They won the Southern dis- trict and the play-offs between the Northern and Southern districts. This happened dur- ing the season. In the Tournament the Ponies went all the way and took first place. The last game was a thriller with Madison, score 20 to l9. This ended basketball playing for the year. The Varsity received the trophy for first place in the County league play, while the Junior High brought home three: one for county championship, and one each for the district play-offs.
