MINNESOTA 56308 1080 STUDENTS It was a good year for a new perspective We watched Sadat bring forth an olive branch to change the tensions in the Middle East. We debated the Panama Canal. ERA. abor- tion. the neutron bomb, and American Edu- cation. We witnessed the Lowry protest grow and agitate to stop the giant silver towers that serve American power greed. We continued to pump that same greed at the gas station with increasing imported oil and higher price. We know that most prices were rising but that farm prices were lower. We listened to Mondale say •Hubert taught us how to live . .. and how to die”, and we knew that it was true. We examined the athletic programs for their purposes, motivation, and leadership against our own. We looked at Kruegers Creek. Selective TV. Central and Jefferson additions. County Courthouse. Viking Plaza and Perkins, and we wondered about the future of our area. We reflected on Presley and Prinze when they left early and others like Crosby. Chaplin and Marx after a full life. We could see past the debris of the parking lot at the end of the day to the new concepts, the rich experiences in classes, the partici- pation and the new self discipline. We felt good about the future - because we had learned - for it was a good year for a new perspective. Mr. Riggs Homecoming Royalty for 1977- Front Row: Sophomore Escort Dan Anderson. Friday afternoon the student body assembled in the gym to hear Mark Scharenbroich, a comedian from “Mom's Apple Pie . A short pep fest followed the show. Friday night the Cards took on St. Cloud Apollo and were defeated. The annual Alumni Tea was after the game. The Homecoming Dance with the band “Masquerade” was well attended. ONCE UPON A MATTRESS The 1977 Spring Play was Once Upon a Mattress by Jay Thompson, Marshall Baver, and Dean Fuller. The play revolves around a young prince's efforts to find a wife. This was made difficult by his mother, the Queen, who does not want him to marry. The production was made even better by the technical crew and helped to establish the tradition for Spring Plays at Jefferson Senior High School. She spent a year there and became acquainted with their customs. One activity that Annette enjoyed was taking saunas. While in Finland she found herself missing American music, realizing how much it is a part of our lives. Annette made close ties in Finland and felt fortunate to have been chosen for the exchange program. 2. Mary Bursch was this year's American Field Service, student representing our school in Bardonechia. Italy. While living with her Italian family she enjoyed such new activities as picnicing and hiking and also a four day stay at the ocean. Mary felt she bettered her understanding of her own country by observing similarities between Italy and the U.S. She keeps in close touch with her family and hopes to return someday. 3. Cheri Saari represented our school in Agen. France. She arrived in late June to meet her first French family. She enjoyed spending that month with them playing tennis and swimming. In August she met her second family and went with them to Pelvoux. a small town in the Alps. Cheri found her stay in France very interesting and hopes to return again someday. 4. Lucia Valarezo was this year's American Field Service student from Quito. Ecuador. She arrived here in August and became acquainted with her American parents. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Roers. Lucy saw many differences between Jefferson and her all-girls high school in Quito. She made many friends here and left us with a better understanding of her country. 5. Helio R. Guimares Filho II was this year's Rotary Exchange student. He spent the school year with the Merv Roggow family and the summer with the Dr. Jerome Mohs family. Helio was involved in Student Council, football, and also acted in the fall play. One of his main interests was observing our farms. He plans to further his studies in agriculture after graduating. 13 15 17 CONCERTS MIDWINTER Midwinter began with the medallion hunt and concluded with the Midwinter dance at Arrowwood. Monday through Saturday there were pit tournaments to find the pit” champion. Another highlight of the week was the talent show in which students and faculty performed. The efforts of the Midwinter committee made Jefferson's 1978 Midwinter an important event of the school year. MIDWINTER ROYALTY ROW 1. Patty Chan. Ann Rader. Lisa Kluver ROW 2: Tim Johnson.
