Since it was our last year we hoped to make every class, game, and activity the best. As seniors we found our- selves in a different role—previously we had looked to upper- classmen for our school leadership, but this year the responsi- bility of providing capable leaders was placed upon our shoul- ders. Early in the year our confidence began to build as we discov- ered well-qualified class officers-Roger Foss. President; Judy Eastman. Vice-president; and Jan Thompson, Secretary- Treasurer. Our advisor was Mr. Ording. The beginning of October found us enthusiastically involved in the events of Homecoming. We were proud of our queen, Cheryl Navratil, and her attendents, Linda Augdahl and Sandy Dehn. The satisfaction that comes with any great accomplish- ment was present when our float, The Goalden Way to Victo- ry,” won first place. Graduation came as usual in the spring. Both as a class and as individuals we were proud of our accomplishments. Once again we were hearing the familiar strains of Pomp and Cir- cumstance, but this time it was meant for us. We were march- ing away from our happy high school days and to the the fu- ture. 20 Gary Ackerman Shirley AWeldt Dennis Alto Bruce Anderson June Anderson Leonard Anderson Linda Anderson Lois Anderson Perry Anderson Sharon Anderson Mary Annis 21 Carol Antes Marilyn Appell Connie Arfsten Linda Augdahl Loren Backlund Diane Bakken Mary Jo Bartos Richard Baumann Suanne Baumann Sandra Bearson Alan Becker Gordon Bjerkness Daniel Bolstad Sally Bongard 22 Marion Botner Robert Botner Ralph Botzet Robert Boyd Vicky Burss Gwen Bylund Ronald Carlson , Tom Carlson Wayne Chan Judy Christianson TomCihlar 23 Sandra Dehn Ruth Dittberner Randolph Divine Shirley Dobberpuhl Mary Ann Doebber Linda Dumdei Sharon Dyrstad 24 Judy Eastman Roger Eblen Craig Eggen Karl Eiler Phillip Ellingson Barbara Emerson Carolyn Engstrom Susan Faehnrich James Fahlin Gale Falk Lambert Feda Jeanne Franzen Julie Frederich Karen Fremling Bradley Froemming 26 Judy Hagedorn Gary Halstead Alan Hansen Steven Hansen 27 Glenda Gease Jill Geris Michael Gesell Joyce Gilbertson Lucinda Gillispie Billie Glade John Gromatka Stuart Grosenick Gregory Haanen Una Hachmann 4 Susan Hansen Dan Haskins Patricia Hass Douglas Hauskens Michael Hausmann Donald Hector James Hedine Bennie Hedstrom Janice Heid Elaine Helgeson Duane Hens Randall Herington James Hibbard Dennis Hillmer 28 Sharon Hink Gaylen Hjelm Jerome Hoaglund Keith Hoeschen Mary Holt John Hopfner Paul Huberty Judy Huffman William Hughes John Huhn Wendolyn Huizinga Neal Hunter Jean Jackson Garry Jarman 29 Steven Jensen Marget Jesness Barbara Johnson Charles Johnson Craig Johnson Esther Johnson Jon Johnson Karen Johnson Marilyn Johnson Mary Johnson Michael Johnson Steven Johnson Debora Johnston Kenneth Josephs 30 Charles Jost Patty Kakac Leslie Kalina Michael Karnis Vicky Karrow Mary Kaufman Catherine Kelly Dorothy Kelly Michelle Kephart Charles Klemann 31 Kathleen Lanigan James Lantz Bradley Larson Jacqueline Larson Kay Larson Alan Lee Robert LeSage 32 Gale Ley David Lindquist Mark Lindquist Michael Lindquist Nathan Lommen Susan Lorsung Mary Lund JoAnn Maetzold John Malmberg Gaylord Mattocks Cindy Maus Michael McCabe Neil Melton Cheryl Metcalf 33 Geraldine Meyer James Meyer Pamela Midboe Robert Millar Bruce Nelson 34 Craig Nelson Linda Nelson Randy Nelson Richard Nelson Kurtis Norling Daniel Olson Eric Olson Mary Olson Terry Olson Joyce Omland InezOndracek Suzanne Ording Mary Patrick James Paulzine Tim Nelson Gail Newhouse Douglas Norbeck Noreen Norder Judy Prchal Charles Purdy Michael Quist Gerald Radermacher Jerry Randall Richard Ranum 36 Penny Rasmusen Michael Redig Ginger Reed Peggy Richardson Verdeen Ripley Barbara Roers Elaine Roers Stephen Rolfsrud Barbara Saar Roger Saathoff Barbara Sandberg William Sandefur TomSchildt Valerie Schmidt William Schoenack 37 Barbara Schultz Wayne Schultz Maurice Schulz Chad Schwanke Richard Sethney Elsie Shermak Patrick Sherman Connie Simenson Keith Skoglund MikeSkoglund James Skuza 38 James Sherry Jack Shinabarger Kurt Sieve Kermit Sletto Gregg Sonstegard Stephanie Sonstegard Gary Spaeth Michael Spellman Bev Sperling Joyce Springer Dennis Stark John Staflen Lynda Steidl MarkSteidl Theresa Steidl Robert Steinbring Dianne Stoltenberg 39 Diane Stone Angela Suchy Stanley Svee Donna Tabbert Jan Thompson Kim Thompson Carol Thornton Curtis Tvrdik Kenneth Tvrdik Leslie Tvrdik RuthTvrdik 40 Janet Thurber Margaret Trousil Anne Turner Linda Uhde JohnVangstad PaulVendel TomVipond Jackie Volden Cynthia VonderHaar Corliss Wagner Cynthia Wallace DeAnn Warkenthien Vernon Warkenthien Tim Weatherwax Ronald Wenaas Colleen Wendt Carole Westad 41 Carolyn Wright Richard Wunderlich Dale Yager Richard Yager Carolyn Yanda Donald Zimmel LynelIZwieg 42 What a Day for a Daydream” Who said it hurts anyway?! WJOKS On September 5, we entered the doors of Jefferson for the eleventh year of our education. At that time we proudly claimed the name of Juniors. We each cast a ballot to determine our class officers. Kevin Hoeschen emerged as President; Phil Franzen, Vice-President; and Cog Reiland, Secretary-Treasurer. We selected Nancy Sonstegard to represent our class for the festivities of Homecoming. Our float came in third, but our spirit didn’t drop as we tried outyelling everyone in the compe- tition yell at the pep fest. Voting for our class rings was another hilite of the year, and the great decision of which ring would identify our class. So the year ended, and with it came our anticipation of the final year we would spend at Jefferson. Next year we would be Seniors! 44 ROW 1: C. Anderson. C. Anderson. C. Arvold. M. An- dreasen. But we quickly recovered and began our long trudge toward graduation in the spring of 1970. As a result of our fall voting Virgil Rolfsrud became our president. Jan Bundy was chosen as vice-president, and Jenny Heegard was elected to the secretary-treasurer position. Hours of thought and work went into a creation entitled Massacre the Mohawks, which we proudly claimed as the sophomore float during Homecoming festivities. It was successful in competition, taking a second place overthejuniors.Atthissametime we were represented by Vicki Baumbach in the royal court. As the year went by we did our best to perfect the sophomore yell, hand- ed in World History term papers, caught poison ivy on Biology trips to re- mote regions of school property, and tried very hard to understand Julius Caesar. Spring found us anticipating final grades and proud of our biggest ac- complishment of the year, becoming juniors. SOPMOMORSS 50 ROW 1: S. Anderson. L. Auran. J. Anderson. P. Aga, D. Anderson. L. MOMSCOMJM1967 Homecoming 1967 unfolded Thursday night. October 5 with the coronation of the queen by Mike Quist and Randy Divine, co-captains of the football team. Chosen to reign as queen over the 1967 homecoming festivities was Cheryl Navratil. The royal court attending the queen included Vicki Baumbach as sophomore attendant: Nan- cy Sonstegard represented the juniors; and Lin- da Augdahl and Sandy Dehn were senior attend- ants. Escorting the royalty were Miguel Cervi. Terry Johnson, James Woolliscroft, Pat Sher- man, and Steve Hansen respectively. The theme. Somewhere Over the Rainbow , was sung by Stephanie Sonstegard. Jim Lantz. emcee for Thursday night's events, also announced results of juding on the floats. Capturing first place with their float was the seniors. Sophomores took second; and jun- iors. third. The Beta-lnteract float came in first for the clubs. Directly after the coronation there was a pa- rade headed by the Alexandria marching band under the direction of Mr. L. E. Christenson. The parade consisted of the floats made by classes and clubs, the 1967-68 reigning royalty, cheer- leaders, and Miguel Cervi. JHS foreign student. The parade terminated at the ball field with the traditional bonfire and the flaming A . Friday night the Cardinal football team proved that Winning is for the Birds as they defeated the Montevideo Mohawks 15-6. Follow- ing the game there was an alumni get-together at the Viking Motel sponsored by JHS student council. Bringing to a close this year's homecoming activities was the dance in the JHS gym on Sa- turday night. The He-Toos provided the musical entertainment. 57 Cheryl and Miguel Pep — Pep — Pep Somewhere Over the Rainbow 59 “SIX WHO PASS WMJCS VMS jCSJXZJjCS POJ£ This delightful and deservedly fantasy was written by Stuard Walker. The Cards started the year with a 12-0 victo- ry over Sauk Centre. However, their next oppo- nent, Fergus Falls, handed them a 6-12 loss. Bouncing back, the Cards won their next two games 36-6 over Glenwood and 7-0 over Will- mar. In a bruising game Alex, and Brecken- ridge battled to a 7-7 tie. They followed this up with a 13-6 win over Montevideo. The last three games were disappointing as they dropped a 0-19 game to Litchfield, tied 13-13 with Benson, and lost to Morris 6-7. K - SQUAD MAS A GOOD SSASOM Any wrestler on the B-squad has the right to challenge for a berth on the A-squad. A simple request to the coach brings the contest. The wrestler that wins two out of three matches wins the berth. By this system the cardinal wrestling team is always kept on its toes be- cause all the members know if they slack off someone is more than willing to take their place. This, along with many other reasons has made the cardinal wrestling team the finest one for many years.
