Football players bestowed flowers upon the cheerleaders, and our president, Danny OBrien, presented roses to Mary Ippolito, who spent much time in the organization of Homecoming Week. At the start of the season everything looked promising for TI, with a new head coach, many outstanding re- turning seniors and a whole new system. We started the season with a ttBLAST of school spirit. Busses carrying students and Cheering cheerleaders to McLean High School, arrived to see the Colonials run the Highlanders off the field with a score of 24 t0 8. The school was in an uproar over the victory and was ex- pecting more, but suddenly things began to happen and we lost to Stuart. From there on, our team never regained its success. The sea- son finally ended with a record of 3-7 in a not-so-tough Gunston District. The games that we won were McLean, Groveton, and Mt. Ver- non. The team did have the potential to win, with many outstanding players such as Bill Blanchetti, John Fessenden, Gene Cone, Paul Quigg, Chris Lutz, David Dwornik and Frank Allgauer. But because of many factors that the players could not control, the team was un- able to produce the winning season which it had strived for all year long. Under the leadership of team captains Ieb Snider and Tom Hill, the fighting Colonials ended their season with a 5-3 record. This was quite an accomplishment, considering that it was the best team record since 1965. Several of the team players deserve recognition for well-played games. These players are Brian Kuntz, David Risoldi, Robert Furbee, and An- thony Whitlock. The future bright point is in the starting backfield, consisting of Ieb Snider, Brian Mann, Anthony Whitlock and Brian Kuntz, of whom all have averaged over 5 yards per carry this past season. Football 61 F reshmen Football started their season out with a big win over Lee. Suddenly the sea- son became more difficult and they were left with a 2-4 record. During their season they had a seven game winning streak in which the players worked together proving that determination and team effort pays off. There were many records broken: most points scored in a season and in one game, Tim Danhower; most rebounds in a season and in one game, Kevin Westphal. Other outstanding players were forward Brian Kuntz and guard Barry Dorsey. We hope these players work together until their senior year, when they will hopefully be one of the best team that TI has ever put on the court. Bottom row: Phil Gary. George Adams, John Lyon. First off are the wonderful and excitingly unique people of Thomas Jefferson, who allowed us to capture their emotions, experiences and ac- tivities in this book. Without you, the history of Thomas Jefferson High School would not have been worth recording. You were extremely pa- tient and lunderstanding when asked to come again for pictures, or make up new lists, or the million and one other things we may have re- quested from you. Your co-operation with us was very much appreciated and made our task ' so much easier. A special thanks to all those teachers, sponsors and coaches, who were still able to smile and make out another list, or get the group together for another picture, or let us take your picture on a day you didn't feel so hot tThanks Mrs. Melton and Mrs. Lynchi. Our job is very trying on our teachers. During deadlines, we are the ones who can not keep our eyes open and asked to be excused from class to work on yearbook. Thanks for being so understanding. Oh, by the way Mr. Malone, believe it or not Stephanie really was taking a picutre of a willow tree. Although many people are needed to make anything great, there is always one person. who above every one else spends the most time trying to make everything just a little bit easier on everyone. Mr. K.. I don't know what we would have done with out you this year. You are one in a million. Whenever our problems seemed in- surmountable, you were always there with a smile and your wonderful words of comfort, ttSweat not a head . You are one of those very special people who always seems to have another rainbow in his pocket no matter how many times we come to you with that need- fifty-more-pages-to-meet-the-deadline-tomorrow look. You must be a saint or have some very good connections up there Ioause you seem to pull one miracle after another out of that potv pouri of papers in your front pocket. You know, Cathy and, I figured it out the other day. You must be insane. I mean after all you've been through if your not insane by now then you must have been insane to take the job in the first ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS place. In any case you are a very special person, who will always hold a very dear place in my heart A big thanks goes to Mr. E.. who was al- ways willing to go one step further to help you out. I want to thank you for bringing up the color for me to see. It was FANTASTICE! You re- ally know how to make someone happy. I sure hope Hunter realizes what a very special person they have in you. Likewise Mr. Sheppard, you ' are one of a kind, always popping in with a little surprise to make our job alot easier. Thanks for all the running around you did. You must be in good enough shape by now to make the Olympic track team. Now we get to all those people behind the hook making it what it is. Sara - You are truly the only possible recipient of two awards. Therefore, I am proud to present you will The Most Likely to Burn Down the Hecht Co. Award and HThe One With the Most Reason to Become a Hassler But Didn't Award . You've been able to keep your sanity when I would have lost mine. The Kojak pages turned out just great! Keith - If anyone deserves an award for complaining, it is you. live never known anyone to complain more when they had more pics than anyone. but you do. Maybe that's the only was to get pics around here. By the way have you noticed, I have not said, ttl'm sorry? for the longest time. I wish you could learn to say, Cliff Notes , not. Crib Notes . Steve e I've never known anyone to go to such great extremes to get an excuse for mis- sing a deadline. I mean breaking you leg and then slipping a disc in your back are kind of ex- treme measures. Was it really worth 'it? Stephanie a live never known anyone to get as violent as you do when something comes back wrong in the blues. I sure would hate to be around when you really get mad. Youtre more dangerous than the bionic woman. Tim - We certainly have had our share of missing things. One of these days I'm gonna learn your filing system and find all those items that got mis- placed. By the way. have you ever considered turning on the light when you look? Greg a You must have the best lunches tcause you always seem to be eating them while you develop film. You are gonna have to let me try one some day. Pete a Between Stephanie, you and me. we 2m x q m :rwwa must have driven Mrs. Gay, Mr. Melone and Mrs. Rossell insane. How else do you explain the way they act? Frank - I'm sure glad we got that stereo fixed because I couldn't have taken one more day of that. Potato suck a You are a real good sport to be able to take all of our kid- ding It is not easy being a junior-senior on staff and to be able to take that plus all of our jokes, takes a special kind of person. Thanks so much for coming in on deadlines. Will - This Satur- day. same place. same time? You'll never know how much that night meant to me. You had to grow up awfully fast this year and you did a great job on Faculty. Thanks for everything. Cathy e Remember, send the Bionic woman t the FBLA with the Innsbruck flu. Ward - Thanks for taking all those ad pictures. Being a junior, you end up with the assignments nobody wants. By the way, how is your arm? Karen - You did a great job of running errands. Believe me it isn't easy being Keith's junior. Kathy and Kathy - you guys did alot of work for the se- niors this yeari Running around for ads is not an easy job and neither is copying layout after lay- out after layout after layout for classes. Michele - Whenever I saw you. you always seemed to be smiling. I don't know how you did it. Teresa - You will never know, I repeat never know, how much help you were. Poor kid, you had the scare of your life when Steve broke his leg. I sure hope you don't catch his clumsiness. Susie and Lisa - Thanks for running some really dumb er- rands, and keeping the rest of us informed on the latest gossip. Parents - I know that many of you don't believe that we spent all that time on weekends and holidays working on yearbook, but honestly we do. It is so nice of you to sac- rifice a few family activities or meals for us. We try so hard to make this book something youll be proud of that it is nice to know youlre behind us and are there to understand when we fall short during deadline times. Your patience and under- standing are just as important to us as the work we have done on this book. Thank you!!! Now lastly but certainly not leastlym. comes the answer to the question you've all been waiting to hear. What happened to the mm and the potato chips? Dut- dut-ta-ta-da! You know the answer you thought it was. Well your wrong its the other answer. Thanks, owns t
