STELLOH JOSEPH WILL B.A., Catawba College M.A., George Washington Univ. Department Chairman GUIDANCE The main principle and philosophy of the Guid¬ ance Department is that no two individuals are exact¬ ly alike. Each has his own pattern of growth, which determines to a large extent the direction and rate of his progressive development. This pattern of development can flourish best in an appropriate en¬ vironment, which a good teacher and counselor will provide. The Guidance Department’s role is to enable each student to best prepare himself for the years ahead. They do this by aiding the student in every way they can, and by supplementing the academic program provided by the teaching staff. However, counseling is not limited to the guidance offices, for many of the teachers also serve as counselors to their stu¬ dents. Guidance serves only as a map to assist the stu¬ dent in finding his direction. We do not give an education, we merely give the means for one. MRS. CYNTHIA B. % : 1 MRS. ARVIE BYERS B.S., W. Virginia Univ. LIBRARY With the opening of school this September, the library had much to boast about. The additional room, which was completed during the summer, increased the library’s space by half and afforded more seat¬ ing space and shelves. This provides for the growing inventory of books and the enlarging circulation. The library staff is proud of the frequent class use of the library and its availability at all times to each department with a well-rounded collection of basic reference and subject material and a wide variety of fiction. We strive to give a maximum of service to both the students and faculty in relaxed, friendly, attractive atmosphere. However, the ef¬ ficiency of our operations could not be maintained without the whole-hearted work of our team of library assistants. MRS. MARY T. FITZPATRICK B.A., State Univ. of N. Y. M.A., Michigan State Univ. Librarian STELLOH 23
